Bose Stereo/Tape/CD system powers on and off intermittantly.

I heard mention in another thread about it possibly being a relay problem...anyone have any experience with this? Just got this a few days ago, tried searchign throughout the forums, but haven't seen anything specifically relating to this, so figured I'd ask before I start ripping through things, hehe.

try lookin in the audio fourms. I had the problem where it would play the cd, or radio but would not put any sound out. in other words, the display showed it as workig but no sound coming out and the would randomly turn back on and then a few days later cut out again. It ended being my HU had something bad in it. Theres a place you can send it to get it fixed for like 150 dollars. I did that and it lasted for about a year and started acting up again so i just went out bought a HU i liked at the store, then bought the bose conversion and now it work like 200 times better than before.

Yeh, when mine goes in and out I can hear this relay clicking like mad in the driver's footwell. Not sure if it's an amp turn-on relay for the factory system, but it sure sounds like it.

sounds almost like maybe a short in the wire. when you turn corners and stuff that would move itmes around, is that when i does it of just randomly. IMO it probably a short in the amp wire or the HU has gone bad. Im trying to think of a way for you to find out that would not cost you anything. ill post it if i come up with a way.

That's common in the Bose stuff.. it's beginning to fail. I would suggest starting to save for a replacement system.. fixing them is usually only a temporary thing, as it'll work for another year or two then start some other problem.

FYI, I've had FOUR Bose head units do this in the various Maximas I've owned/maintained for family.
I'm an electrical engineer, and can't even find what's wrong with it! Poor design and assembly quality by Bose is really all it is. cheap components and soldering done by the cheapest bidder.

yup... back when clarion was cheap crap. they've improved their quality over the years (probably due to the millions that nissan/bose send their way)

i had the some problem.....

Hey budy i had that some problem woth the radio, when i pick up speed like around 45 mph my radio will turn off. I checked the wires from the radio all the wires where all taped. Well next day it did that agian but this time it was my alterantor was charging to much. My dim light where so bright that my light bulbs got burn. I took off my alterantor to a auto parts and told me that it was charging to much. Onces I bought the new alterantor the radio, the dim lights where working well. I think that you need to check the wires or alterantor. Good luck..

same here. when mine was doing that in my 91 gxe it was due to the alternator jumping up to 18 volts.
