OK guys I put in all of my LEDs today. I am very pleased in them except for the climate control. I have a way to fix it but right now the left is dimmer than the right (it shares more buttons and the LED is in the middle)...Like I said no biggie I can fix it later.

I will do a write up after taking some more pics tomorrow or Sunday. The pics I took today are horrible and fuzzy. I think its the reflection off of my table that messed my camera up.

The lights in the buttons around the steering wheel are really bright and uniform. I did however have to modify the LED for the rear window defrost and will cover that in the write up...basically I had to put it in at an angle instead of just down like it normally is.

anyway here are some night shots of the lights on.

They are bluer and brighter than the pics really show.

Here is what I did to each illumination wire going into each button (all except the ACC which I will cover in just a sec.) I soldered and then taped up a 470 ohm resistor so it wouldnt blow the LED. All illumination wires are red/yellow.
here is a pic

Here is a pic of the back of the ACC. I originally added a resistor to the illumination wire but it didnt work right because the ACC needs that 12V for the dimming feature of the display. I soldered the resistors on the anode and wrapped that around the twist in plug on the 12V side. Here is a pic

I decided to change the cruise control indicator and rear defrost indicator to a red LED also. To do this I soldered a resistor in.

Here are pics of them with the red LED lit up.

and finally just a regular pic of the right side on.

Look for the write up later on this weekend or first part of next week. It will be on Craigs site and I will post and update here.

I really like the look of the all blue lights.

Will my gauge from my 92 SE (white gauge cluster) look like this if I put in those 194 Reds? http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...224_9_full.jpg
And if not, what can I do to get them to look like that, or what is the way to get them to look better than the bland white with black numbers, besides putting on a cover that has silly mph in canada that is dominantly kph?

How do you guys think white LEDS would look in the keyring and behinds the Ac controls, I have them in the doors, trunk, and inside the glove box. (All White) from www.superbrightleds.com . Would they show nice as well or no?

wow this thread is almost 2 years old, lol. my friend just sent his gauges in his scion TC off to have blue LEDs put in. when he gets it back and in I might change the color of my gauges/acc lights.

so would the LEDs that you can buy that will just plug right in the 194 give you good color all the way around the gauges? I know that LEDs are bright but you have to have them pointed in the dircetion that you want to light up.

or do you think I should just use a colored 194? I tried this one time in my first car (first gen neon) and the 194s that I got from autozone were so dim that I could almost not see my gauges at night. is there a type of colored 194 that would be brighter than another one?

I've got some $30 White Polargs In, I've experimented with a few different "Ricer" bulbs, and these are the best. I have a few pics and I'll see when I can host them.

What size LED's do the a/c controls use? Also, what size do all of the door lights take? I'm trying to decide if I should go with the polarg bulbs or the superbright LED's, any one have any suggestions? pros/cons??? I tried posting pics of my max w/my signature, but couldn't figure it out...it wanted a URL???

Likewise with the above post, sorry for digging up this old thread but i am going to be pulling apart my dash and replacing the bulbs for the gauges this week, and just wanted to confirm that this particular bulb listed on ebay will definitely fit?

I notice there are a lot of different shaped 194 bulbs listed (in terms of the glass head). Does that mean some 194 bulbs will fit and others wont due to clearance etc.? If so, what are the clearance specifications of the bulb used in our cars so i know what i should be looking for?

Thanks for any input folks!

looks just like mine, without the chrome bezel....i was thinking about going back to ultra white, and just painting the back of the guage faces so that whatever colors i want to appear will appear....as in different color tach, different fuel and temp gauge, etc.

Yes where the radio is. Anyways at 6 am tdy i went down and took of everything to get to the climate control it took me about 30 minutes looking all around it and i haven't found a hole where the bulbs are. Are there any bulbs in the MCC because some one told me they're in the back of it. But i was looking around the MCC for about 30 minutes no luck. Some help would be great. If some one can get a pic for me where the bulbs are located i would greatly appreciate it.

I guess you don't need instructions on how to take off the surround then.

Sorry guys I know I posted on the last page but i havent received an answer yet and im desperate to know if this bulb will fit in our dash..

I guess the question is.. will *ANY* 194 wedge type bulb fit, or will some still not fit due to clearance issues with the type of glass head on the end? or doesnt that aspect of it matter, just that it must be a 194 wedge type and then you're fine?

Really keen to know this so as i know im not wasting money on my order and pulling the car's dash to bits only to realise im stuck with replacement bulbs that are a no go!

Cheers folks.

By reading the thread it sounds like most 194 bulbs should fit without issue...

whitemax: try taking it apart and looking for yourself.....the best way to learn.

edit: if there's light being produced from the MCC, then the question about whether or not there's bulbs inside is moot, of course there are bulbs, you just have to find them.

there are two bulbs that illuminate the info on the MCC (not including the slider LEDs and LEDs that come on when you push the buttons) then there is a bulb in each of the fresh air vent pictures (the verticle lever).

The two for the MCC are right on top under a little flap. Good luck finding that exact size but I believe the radio shack micro lamps will work but are just smaller...dont know the RS part number off hand but its been posted by Craig Brace several times on this board (and a couple by me).

I will see if I can dig up my picture I took for another guy a while back though I am not sure how you are missing it...its a little rectangle flap right around the middle of the top of the MCC.

The clock dimming is a common problem so it really doesn't have anything to do with your other problem more than likely.

I was just wondering how to change the lights in the automatice gear shifter, it would just look funny when my dashlights are blue and the shifter is green.
