Power Steering ...

Hey everyone, I just wanted to see if you had any suggestions for me. About a week ago, I started noticing a belt squeak when I would turn my wheel sharply to one side or the other in the morning while backing out of my driveway. I checked the power steering fluid, and it seemed to be rather low. I filled it up to the line that says hot after driving the car around to let it warm up. After filling it up with power steering fluid, I drove around a little more, and when I came home, the squeaking seemed to go away. However, this morning, I began to notice it again. What else should I check and what do you think my problem is? I thought I had the problem solved when I filled up the power steering fluid...

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jeremy

BTW I checked the fluid again this morning when I started to hear the squeak again, and it was still full, so it's not leaking badly (if at all).

Well two obvious actions would be to check the belt's condition and tighten it to spec. How to do that? Read the stickies/buy a cheap Chiltons manual etc.....

OK, after monitoring the situation for a couple of days, here is what I have come up with. The car IS leaking power steering fluid, contrary to my original thoughts. After driving about 40 miles today (usually I only drive about 10-15), I noticed the squeak was much more pronounced as I came into my driveway - it must only leak while the car is running. I checked the fluid level again and it was WAY down from when I filled it on Sunday. I went and got some more, and filled it again tonight. I'll continue to watch it and see if it keeps getting low - I bought some STP stop-leak, so we'll see if that helps at all.

Thanks in advance for any more suggestions you guys might have...

Jeremy

just one :
get a dye to put in the fluid so that you can find the source of the leak
