1)remove cover over center console shifter, if auto. (use a butter knife and pops right up)
2)remove trim surrounding stereo and heater/ac controls. (two screws in bottom, and pry out gently)
3)put steering wheel in lowest tilt position, remove 4 screws in bottom of trim surrounding the wheel that contains the mirror controls, cruise, rear defrost, etc. Remove this trim CAREFULLY.
4)remove about 6 screws in the dash which are now visible, that hold the trim surrounding the guage pod, and about 6 screws that go up into the dash. Remove this part carfully as well.
5)romove 4 screws holding in guage pod, and 3 wire harnesses behind it.
I left a few things out, put this should help, I hope.
p.s. remember to plug in your clock as your re-assembling it all back together.
Yep, that sounds about right. For step 2), you can find the two screws if you remove your ash tray; there's one to the right which is clearly visible, and the other one to the left which is just under the cig. lighter. Just remember to be easy with everything so you don't break it. For step 4), I think there are 4 screws on top and bottom instead of 6 but I could be wrong too.
By the way, I have a 92 GXE cluster which I removed. It should still work fine. I think the last guy who wanted it agreed taht $40 including shipping was a good price. Email me to talk about this if you still want/need it. Good luck.

Isaacm,
I got mine from a person who was parting out their max. They posted in the parts for sale forum. The cluster cost me $91 which included shipping. I know that's kinda high, but I really wanted them. Everything is the same (installation was okay), I just took the gauges from the 89 pod and placed them in my GXE pod. It fits and works fine, and I haven't had any problems with wrong rpms and stuff. I think I read somehwere on this forum that Avalon Racing was making some gauges for 3rd and 4th gens. They look pretty good and I think they're around $80-90 as well. You might wanna look into that since finding a cluster is difficult and people might try to charge you a lot for it (ie, some junkyards). Any more questions, just ask. Good luck.

Just a thought, as it would be nice to have the speedo go up to 145mph...I guess it just depends if the electronics are the same. I am also wondering, in case I can't find one from '89 to '91. I plan on going to the junk yard right after work, so again, your help is greatly appreciated...
Thanks,

It Can Be Done!
Well, I did it. I went to the junkyard after work yesterday and bought a guage cluster from a '93 SE. The guy at the yard said that not all SE's had white guages. Is this true? I always thought differently. Oh well... I put the '93 SE guages into my '93 GXE pod about 1 hour ago. Just exchanged the three individual components. Everything works and looks great. I timed the 145 mph speedometer, since of course the GXE only goes to 125 mph. I set the cruise at 60 mph, and waited for a mile marker. I went 3 miles, to be more accurate, and it took 181 seconds. Only 1/3 mph off!!! So, anyone who wants to put these SE pods in their GXE, it works great!!!
It only cost me $50 for the entire cluster, and since I dug it out myself, and waded through 4' snow banks to get to the car, he gave me the cruise control switch and the fog light switch. What a deal!!
Sorry for rambling on, but I thought you all might like to know.
