Ignition Wires - Question

(Note:This question also posted in Canada forum)

I have a 1991 Nissan Maxima SE with 236,000 kms (141,600 miles) on the clock. In reviewing my repair records today, I noticed that I have never replaced the ignition wires. I have had several tune-ups and the mechanic has replaced plugs, distributor cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter etc, but never the wires.

The last time I was at my mechanic, he noticed this fact and quoted me $220CDN for NGK ignition wire set.

Is this price high? How can I tell if the wires actually need replacing? Or does the mechanic need to perform some type of diagnostic?

It has been 3 years since the last tune-up, and the car seems to be running fine.

Thanks in advance.

Ted

Yes that price is WAY high IMHO.
I sell em for $90 USD and those I'm overpriced on or so I've been told (I've got to find a new vendor for NGK wires)
