I did it...

I had to do some other modifying too because the shifter would hav stuck way to high for me using that universal shifter handle.

first there are a couple of screws on the front (facing the radio) that you need to take off. Then take the shifter surround off and disconect the OD button. Now push down a little (or maybe it pull up a little...cant remember) and the button should pop out. after that you just pull it up.

I cut the rod just below the plastic piece (you will see once you get in there) and the rod wouldnt sit even with the tube. I had a rubber piece (not sure what it came from) that was the exact diameter of the tube and had a hole in it almost the exact size of the shifter rod. So it worked out perfect.

If you are not comfortable fabricating stuff dont cut anything off of your shifter or you may never shift again.

Good luck,

I dont know are you going to read my response this time LOL? I responded to this same question you asked right here in this thread.

I am not worried about OD I never took it off really. I will probably run a switch into the console later on but right now I am not worried about it. I just un plugged it from the connector under there. its normally open which means as long as the switch isnt shorted...ie nothing plugged into the connector that can short it like a switch...then it will remain in OD. If you close the switch (short it) then it will turn OD off. So leaving it unplugged will make OD work just fine.
