painted wheels
painted wheels
now, some of us are on a budget, and i might be bringing up an old topic, but i cant tell coz of the darn search
anyways, i cant afford new wheels, and the ones i have now are looking a lil shabby. i was thinking about painting them coz i just helped my buddy paint his oz rims black on his yellow lancer.
what color should i paint them-on a black max
and what paint to use, we used a flat black on my friends and the results were pretty good.
any ideas, i want it to look tasteful

Ok, I have painted the stock wheels on both my old white max and my new black max, so I have it down to a science (sort of). Firstly, I would paint the wheels silver. No offense aw89maxse, but IMHO the stock max rims don't have enough "dead space" (where you can see behind the wheel to the brake) to make painting them black look sleek. It's too Knight Riderish. With that said, here is what I did:
Go to autozone and buy this paint: http://www.duplicolor.com/products/wheel.html. You will need 2 cans of the paint (use silver, it is nice and shiny) and 1 can of clearcoat. You will also need to buy some primer from somewhere, I suggest using rustoleum, it stuck well.
Take your current wheels and sand them really well. Buy a wire crush bit or two for your drill, and use that to get the clearcoat off. Finish with sandpaper and MAKE SURE THE SURFACE OF THE WHEEL IS EVEN EVERYWHERE. On my black car, I got lazy and left the surface uneven.
Wash the wheels to get the excess dust off, and tape off the tires so you don't get paint on them.
Spray each wheel with light coats of the primer. Use the whole can. After it has tacked, sand it with fine grit sandpaper and use a damp cloth to get the primer dust off the surface.
Now paint the wheels with the silver duplicolor wheel paint. Start with 2 light coats, then do 1 medium coat and 1 additional coat if you feel like the coverage isn't sufficient. Then let the wheels dry for 24 hours.
The next day, apply thin coats with the clearcoat until the can is empty.
Tada! You have great-looking stock wheels and it only cost you about $20 in supplies.
P.S. Take the centercaps off and paint them seperately, following the exact same procedure as I outlined above.
P.P.S Look at the 2nd picture on my cardomain site for a pic of the silver rims.

ok, so i picked up some paint, i went to autozone and got some wheel paint in silver. i also got some hammered effect paint in a gun metal color.
my plan is to paint the whole flat part of the wheel in the silver, then i want to take the hammered effect paint and paint inside the spokes.
i just got done with the silver on the drivers side wheels. it looks much better, its more of an alloy look than the chrome, very pleased
