Clunking

What does clunking sounds from the front end mean? (usually at slow speed turning and/or slow speed acceleration when it switches gears) Do I need new ball joints or something?

How much will this repair cost? And is it a do it yourself job or something I should have a mechanic do? Oh and where do I get the replacement parts(if I need them) cheap(unlikely)?

Thanks!

yea its hard to tell if i dont hear it for my self.... but if it is ball joints they are cheap. labor to have them replaces is next to nothing. my mech i think charged me an hour labor total for both sides plus parts.
