KILLED a Grand Am GT....
Probably not the fastest car in the world, but I beat the sucker as I was comming back from what was supposed to be the Tennessee meet (I was the only one there it seems!). He passed, then with the nudging of my wife: "can you beat it?" I laughed and dropped to 3rd and passed him till I saw him in the rear view, then I braked and let his rear bumper match my front and geared down again and stomped it. I waved as I went by and smiled really big! I passed him at 115mph and let off at 125 once he was in the rear view again, I figured if I could see him there, he was beat! Once I let off and let it coast back down, he never passed me untill I had slowed to 115-110, I didn't start braking till about 105. All I have to say is that GT badging and chrome rims don't make a car fast! Burn all Greenville wanna-be's!
I'm not exactly sure what year, but it looked almost identical to my wife's '94 Grand Am. That's why I'm guessing it's a mid '90s model maybe newer. I honestly didn't even know how fast I topped off at, I was watching the road and last I had looked at the speedo was 115 and 120. My wife told me I hit a little over 125, that's why she got scared. I guess cause there are no more numbers after that!? The car had to of been an auto though and he had no passengers, I'm not sure about a system. I had myself (300lbs) and my wife and full system in the trunk. I'm just not one to race off the drag strip, so road killing something was just a rush for me! So, how much hp does a Grand Am GT have?
The Grand Am years your talking about are from '92-98.
It all kinda depends on which year it was. I hope i remembered all this info right.
The early years of that body style, '92-94, i think had the GT with the 2.3L Quad 4 HO (180-175hp) with a 5spd. But, if it was an automatic, it came with a 3.3 V6 (150-160hp, im guessing) with 4spd auto. If the car you raced was a 4dr, then it was the V6. No 4dr GT's came with the Quad 4 HO. If it was a later GA GT, like '95-98 and was a 4dr, it came with the 3100 (155hp).
These GA GT's came with a lot of different engines. But basically, if it was a 4dr or an automatic, you should of had no problem with it. A 2dr MIGHT of had the Quad 4, which might have given you more of a run. A 2dr with an auto, would of been just as slow as the 4dr.

Yeah, this GA gave me no problems! My question is this: Jeff, how can you say the Quad 4 (4 cylinder!)engine would be harder to beat? My wife has the Quad 4 in her SE (which I understood was standard in the SE's/ V6 standard in GT's?), either way, her car is slower than dirt! Regardless, I won, first real street race! Just had to brag, no one showed for the Pigeon Forge "mini meet" so that was a disappointment!
