Why not skip those engines and go right for a 1990+ 300zx Twin Turbo motor? You get tons more horse power and when you drop this motor in you can make the maxima RWD and do some serious drifting... Someone mentioned stillen having a kit to do it and I have pics of my TT Maxima if anyone is interested...

haha this is funny, cause i was going to post a Q about engine swaps.
what would be the best for a 90 maxima. I saw this post and had to explore. I have an old maxima and Im curious what the best swap would be for it. What is the biggest most current nissan powerhouse i can fit in this thing?

you can probably fit just about anything in there with enough money, however, the easiest swap would be the vg30et out of the older 300zx's. that's about as easy as it can get for the 3rd gens and the vg30et has lots of potential.

hey guys, I know about all the different possibilities for the 94 GXE so please don't shoot me yet. My friend has just himself a crappy VG like mine and he wants to swap a new engine. I told him to save his money and buy a VE Maxima but the moron won't listen. Anyways, He doesn't want to use a VG30ET and asked me if an RB26DETT or a RB25DET would fit. I answered that with the right amount of cash and patience anything is possible, yet I was not sure about those two particular engines. Any stupid answers I should give him?

those engines are way too long to fit in there horizontally. it may even be too long to fit in the maxima's engine bay in a rwd type setup.
