Eh, PCV valve?

Ok, I seem to have an "vaccuum leak". Except neither the soapy water, or the carb cleaner could see any leak. So, for the heck of it, I figure I'll replace the PCV valve. Something is wrong...
IN this pic, my PCV valve (or the only thing I could find that would fit the location, tell me if I'm wrong), and the one checkers gave me. Obviously 2 different things... my mistake or his?

and the next one... my PCV valve doesn't seem to be a "valve", just a hollow tube, is that wrong?

It shouldn't be a hollow tube. The pcv valve has a metal piece in it which when you shake it, you should be able to hear it move.(tik tik). When I change mine, just like yours it doesn't go all the way but I think that's the way it is. Just go until it's tight enough.

Ah good, thats another ting I was wondering, put it back in to go down to checkers to change it, and it didn't screw in all the way...

But when they changed my injectors, they found a peice of wadded up metal in there, that they though my friend had dropped a washer in.. could it have possibly have been the valve (ti, tik)? I don't see anything else on my 91 GXE of roughly the same side hose other than the one I found so far.. (back, rightish middle of engine bay, right beside spark plugs)
Thanks for the speedy reply

ARG! went down to Autozone and checkers, both have the same part listed, does not look like mine at all, and cannot fit hoses. WTF? ?? Every place has it listed as one thing, yet it's obviously different. Where the heck is the PCV ? On the back of the upper mannifold, right?

Are you positive? The PCV I have is completely hollow(so I'm not sure if it actually is spot for PCV valve). The hose looks uniform all the way back though...

So if that was the case, I'd have to replace all the hoses goign into, what I think is the master brake cylinder?

and is this the right location?

This seemed so simple.. :L

Another thing - the haynes manual says to test if the PCV valve is good, then to take the hose off, and you should hear a hissing. I tried that, but my car starts dying, and almost stalls when it is away from the opening of the vacuum tube.

Is someone can tell me "yes, that is definatly the PCV tube, you have to ____ [replace all hoses, although they seem to be the right size], or buy smaller PCV valve for other car, and just tighten hoses on real good..", something... My car runs kinda bad, people say vaccuum leak, "PCV valve"(if that is it) looks completely broken, so I'm thinking it would help to change it. But is it it, what to do?

Yeh, this is wierd.. it's either not the PCV valve, or I recieved the wrong one. The tubes cannot be wrong, unless I have to get an "adapter" for it. They don't have the PCV valve at autozone like the one I need... so either it's obsolete, someone past used the wrong one(and also changed the master cylinder and hoses), or I'm looking at the wrong thing.. Does anyone know for certain? I think one of the guys said that I can find a hose adapter at Home depot to connect my smaller sized hose to the larger PCV valve. The threads work, it just needs a hose about 2x as big.... [and if I get the bigger hose, I'll still have to get an adapter further up, or a different master cylinder to connect it to.]

You NEED the FSM.
the shilton and haynes manuals are to basic for what most of us here want to be able to do.

Hmmm, can you get them down at the nissan dealership, or any place locally? Are they much more expensive than the haynes?
Thanks, thats some helpful advice I hadn't considered

they may be able to order one, BUT I think they have been discontinued and they were $125 from them IIRC.

Your best bet is to watch ebay for one or keep an eye on the classifieds here on the org for one.
I bought mine for $40 shipped from another member so I can't complain.
It's a lot easier for me to use than the mitchell on demand system at the shop.

Actually, I picked it out right away, but someone else has already posted. I have a VG too, so your motor is really familiar to me. The thing you were trying to replace originally is a connector for a vacuum hose and it leads to the brake booster. Make sure you hook it back it - it's kind of important.
