I have a 90 SE with an Auto. There is a tube that comes out of the top of the black box on top of the automatic. It goes to a metal j-shaped tube and then to nothing else. I noticed it while I was looking for my exhaust leak.

Does anyone know what this is for? Is it a vent or is it a vacuum line that should be hooked up somewhere?

Stupid Chiltons shows the tube coming out of the transmission, but it doesn't show it going anywhere or say what it is.

its just a breather tube. nothing to worry about

Thanks! Now I don't have to worry about melting the tranny --- Which I'm a little disappointed in. I used to have a 90 SE 5 spd. I'm finding that the automatic is sluggish even in Power mode. Plus I could get 400 miles to a tank with the 5 spd. Now I'm lucky if I get 350. Very annoying.
