Strut install. The final solution

Ok, Ok, I posted an earlier thread about a problem I had installing struts. I need to humble myself and say the installation was flawed. The top spring mounting plate was rotated 180 deg. the wrong way. A neighbor said he had the same problem. The best way to avoid a bad install is to take the old strut off the car; then match mark the top plate to the spring and the spring to the bottom fixed plate. Ssince the bottom plate is part of the strut be sure to use a spot that can easily transposed to the new strut. The best way to do this is finger nail polish and let it dry before begining disassembly. Chalk or soap stone will wipe off when your man handling with spring removal . Also be sure to remember what end is up on the strut bearing.
It really is not a hard job if you take the right precautions. Hope this helps anyone else considering this chore.

Ah, were you the person who installed those Gabriel struts and everyone was going around blaming the struts?

I take it you got the problem corrected and are now noise-free.....

Easiest way, when you take the struts off, put the bolt back on the stud that is closest to the center of the car if that makes sense. Jeff showed me that one
