muffler - help

ok, so i got a nice big hole rusted through my muffler and now i sound like one of those little rice burners... anwyays i need a new one, and i havent the slightest clue what's good and sounds good so please post comments/links etc..

lookin for something that looks nice maybe like a Greddy spoof (i like how the tip looks) and doesnt sound too loud yet sounds somewhat throaty.

Thanks guys

Consider a 5th gen muffler? It sounds stock though.
Flowmaster 50's might be a good match for what your looking for.

i actually like the one fosgate posted (the lower one)... need an oval body and a greddy looking tip.. i think i was looking at that one but i think they only offered it in a 14" muffler body (too short right? cuz my stock muffler is 18" body)... what size inlets and outlets are stock? 2.5?

I took the muffler off of mine and replaced it with a straight pipe and a Monza dual tip resonator. It has a nice throaty sound but as someone else said about the muffler they used, it does tend to drone when going up a hill at around 2500 - 3000 rpm. Quiet on the highway though. Just a little louder than stock. What I like about it is it looks pretty much stock from the rear except you don't see a muffler body.

I have the second one listed, the 4x9 oval with center inlet and outlet. It sounds nice and deep at idle and is decently loud at WOT, but not enough to be annoying. As was mentioned, there is a bit of drone at ~2500 rpm, but it's not that bad on the highway. As you said, the muffler is a bit short, so you would have to buy tips to compensate for that. Just a word of caution, the muffler that I got had both sides as a female end, so it fit onto the pipe just fine but not the tip, so I had to do a little welding. I dont know if this is just with the stainless series, or I just had an odd muffler. I believe the stock piping size is 2", but I'm not sure if its the same where the muffler is or not. Magnaflow also has a street series with the tips already on, and they have options with smaller inlets. The only reason I didnt go that route was that they don't sell anything with a 2.5" inlet.

the muffler shop (if you are planning to get one installed by a muffler shop) should be able to add a pipe to extend the stock pipe to reach the muffler.

Why would you put a 3" exhaust on a N/A VG?

for those who have the wsp y pipe, what are your opinions on the magnaflows? from what ive read in the past, those with y-pipes have had trouble finding a classy muffler to compliment the y.

it seems like the addition of the y makes everything obnoxiously loud. input?

Aren't all Magnaflow mufflers straight-through unbaffled design? I heard all mufflers like that are inherently loud, and that seems to make sense to me...

Yeah they are. They arent quiet, but its not obnoxiously loud, as long as you have a resonator in the b-pipe. I ordered my wsp pipe without one, that was a mistake. Needless to say, I had a shop weld one in.

Generally a good sized resonator along with a magnaflow style muffler will quiet it down considerably and still give you good performance and sound. I've got a magaflow and resonator on another of my Nissans and it's not too loud at all, sounds great.

I just got a magnaflow muffler with the dual tips and it sounds great! I left my stock resonator on and it has a deep growling sound. The Magnaflow was a little more pricey than some of the other mufflers, but well worth it.
