Trans Line pressure increase

I was just looking through the HCI january 2004 issue and i stumbled upon a modification for automatics. It says "This simple modification pertains to automatics transmissions only. By using a factory service manual and looking at the wiring diagrams, you can increase line pressure within the transmission. This results in stronger shifts by simply adding a drop resistor that can be activated with a realy and dash-mounted switch. Great little weapon for bracket racers, too." So would anyone know how to do this? What is a drop resistor? Also would this be harmful for our autos or would this be fine if used only once in a while?
