Bose Stereo

Ok, I know there's probably a sticky or some old post concerning this, but I don't come here enough to know where it is or how to navigate well enough. What's happened to me (among my many other Maxima problems, I'm beginning to think the car hates me) is the factory Bose car stereo (cd player/tape deck/radio) has slowly stopped working. First it was the CD player that stopped reading, then the tape deck that didn't play, and finally now the radio won't even turn on. I want to replace it myself, but do i have to take the whole dash off? I'm not too sure how to remove it. I have a 93 Maxima XC (XC = extra contoured, because of the two dents). Also, does anyone have an extra bose speaker (rear passenger side) for sale? That one busted (not my fault) and needs replacing.

I have a 91, and I'm guessing that the paneling should be same if not similar.

The only panel I needed to take off is the one that surrounds ur stereo head. there are 4 screws:
2 at near bottom, and 2 underneath the head unit.

Be careful with the switches (hazards, cigarette lighter, and P/A/C switch).

Also, are you replacing ur stereo head with another Bose? If NOT, then you'll need to RR all the speakers too since they have built in "amp" on them. The Bose speakers will not work correctly with a regular headunit.

Good luck.

What Super means by an aftermarket head unit not working properly with your Bose speakers, is that car speakers, head units and amps generally work on a resistance of 4 ohms. The Bose system, for whatever brilliant reason of the designers, works on 1ohm. You can't add an aftermarket head unit to these speakers without changing that resistance somehow. There are adaptors available, that will change the resistance.

I used this site to install my stereo, it was very helpful.

I also found this site, they sell used refirbished factory car audio for many cars, including Maximas.

All the Nissan stuff is listed here

It might be easiest for you to just replace your head unit and be done with it.

Wow, all the March people in consecutive years have posted.
About the screws - where are these? I see no screws, just panels. Does this panel pop off to reveal four screws?
Thanks for the stuff about the Bose resistance. I guess since only 3 of the 4 speakers are working to begin with, I could just replace them all, or at least the back ones, with the new stereo.
Also, since the new stereo will most likely take up 1/3 or less space as the current one, what have others done with the newly found and freed space? Anything interesting?

Any new radio will take up half the space not 1/3 there are no radios that take up 1/3 the space.
1/2, 3/4, and all of the space are available.

The 2 screws are behind the faceplate of the ashtray. the rest of the panel just pops off.

Hey! I just replaced my entire factory setup (HU, speakers, the works!). I first replaced just the HU first so I was using the Scosche adapter (to make the HU work with factory speakers) that I bought from Crutchfield for $50. I can sell it to you for cheap. I only used it for a week or ten days.

PM me or email at mani_47@hotmail.com

repair

Okay, so from looking at the links that were posted before, is it true that the Bose HU is about $1800? If so, I think I might get it repaired instead of replaced? Or does a 10-yr old system have no more in it? Would replacing it impair the value of the car for resale?
If I wanted to get it repaired, are there any good shops to do this at in the Auburn, AL or Atlanta, GA area?

I have repaired a couple of these. I am not sure how many parts I have left from my old bose units but I may have enough to repair yours. Email me if your interested and I will get some prices for you. Shouldnt be too bad (under $100) unless we have to go replacing a bunch of parts that I dont have.

Oh that is unless you are an AU fan LOL J/K.

I am leaving in a minute so if you email me and I miss you I will get to you when I get back later this afternoon.

click my name in my sig. if you want to email me. I am not that (Meridian, MS) far from you but you would have to ship.

Let me know and ROLL TIDE!!!
