Hole in firewall? (Amp installation)

Hello, to all of you guys out there who have installed caraudio amps in your 3rd gen Maximas, I have a question. Save me some trouble & inform me where the hole in the firewall is I can use to run my power wire to the battery. Thanks!

When I installed my amp, i ran the power line on the driver's side of my car and the audio line on the passenger side. I drilled a hole through the fire wall on the driver's side. If you look about 4-8" in from the driver's side quarter-panel there is a large spage in the firewall w/ nothing mounted on it, this is where I drilled my hole. I found it easier to drill from inside the cabin however. MAKE SURE TO USE A RUBBER GROMMET ON YOUR POWER CABLE!!! I wish I had a pic to send you but I don't. Good luck!

remove the mud flaps and splash guards and there is a grommet already there. use that one.

i did the same thing as dude_9303 and it wasn't very difficult, just 2 minutes to drill right through and you've got a fine spot for your power wire.

hid mine under the plastic guards that hold down the carpet. you can take them off of both doors on one side and the plastic cover on the B-pillar and run the wires right under the carpet. get a coat hanger and snake the wire through the back seat.

i did the same, except i conveniently had the back seats out which made running the wires into the trunk much easier, what kind of system are you putting in??

I am putting in two 12's in a slightly large closed box. Do I have to worry about the 89 Maxima's having the deadly trunk rattle sendrom or have they got sturdy locks that will prevent that? Thanks!

yes the trunk, along with the rear deck WILL rattle. your rattling might be a bit worse than mine though, since i only have a pair of tens pushed by a 470 watt amp.

IIRC, reygarcia pretty much has the right idea - without driling a hole! Now, keep in mind, I have 2ga wire run from my battery, so it's even easier with 4ga.

But I simply used the grommet where a portion of the car's body harness runs out to the engine from the firewall in the driver's side wheel well.

I used my fishhook kit (a stout wire hanger should work also), 'forced' it thru this grommet, and it exits about midway up the firewall on the inside of the car.

From there, since I had my entire interior gutted, it was a simple matter of routing the wire as close to the door as possible. However, even with your interior complete, you can just routing the wire shouldn't be too tough.

No hole to drill, no grommet to add - as it's already there.

A little advice...

Go with whichever method suits you the best. I didn't feel comfortable in doing any drilling through my firewall, so I used the under-the-wheelwell grommet pathway by using a nice, sharp razorblade, cutting a small hole in the grommet (which was stuffed with some taped-up wires) and shoved my 4AWG power wire through the hole I cut. I posted the whole thing on my website, so feel free to check it out. I may not have the best amps in the world, but you'd never know it... My ish BUMPS, bruh

Good luck with your install, especially since you're doing it yourself. I'd suggest building a false floor in your trunk before you put your box back there, and I'd also suggest that you run your signal wires straight from your head unit/EQ to your speakers by running the wires under your center console, then under the carpet, under the back seat and into the trunk area to limit the engine whine you might get if you do it any other way... Building the false floor was probably the best move I made because I get NO RATTLE from the trunk at all (2 10" Kicker C-10a's), but you'll have to find something to cushion the contact points in the trunk with (I used some heavy-duty packing material that came with something I had ordered - couldn't have been a better solution for my money ).

Hit me up if you have any questions on the install.

My car came with a 4 awg hole already in the firewall on the drivers side firewall so I was a kid in a candy store installing my amp...My trunk does rattle like crazy though but I am pushing (2) 12" MTX thunder 8000's with a 800 peak kenwood amp...does the trick.

pitt5bull's website

...and I think you kinda answered your own question about the signal. But I might be mistaken, so reiterate what you were saying.

I did it this way today... it was pretty easy, no big problems (except for the wheel was in the way) with stuffing a 4gauge wire through it.. I didnt need to use a fishook kit because the wire was stiff enough to force through unaided... then just pull the carpet up on the edges and snake it along the inside... fun project for the afternoon..
