Water pump life - 93 GXE

Whats the maximum life of water pumps on 3rd gens? I have 123K on mine, have to get the timing belt replaced, but was wondering if I could squeeze some mroe life out of the water pump. It has never been replaced, and the car has never had cooling system issues.

Thanks.

just replace it or else you'll pay for the labor of replacing the timing belt again. my water pump failed at 110K

What about the cam seals, do they need replacing too..it seems they're also close to where the timing belt is....

My car is at 120K and I face the same dilemma. I have a small antifreeze leak, but not sure where it is at-I hope it is the water pump, and not something worse. 120k life of a wp seems good, I don't want to risk 180K. Same thing for the cam seals and the crank seal. I've called local independents who quoted me 1000 dollars for the maintance. The dealers are around ~800 dollars for 1) t-belt, 2) water pump 3) tensioner 4) cam seals 5) crank seal. T belt service is ~250-300 labor, 80 parts. Water pump is 200 for the part. Not sure what the specific prices for the seals are. It sounds like alot, but if it can keep my Maxima running 2-3 more years, it is probably worth it. Then again, a junkyard engine is probably ~500 dollars and installation might be 500 dollars...

a decent junkyard engine will cost you more than 500 and then you're dealing with an engine whose maintinence you don't know.

guess you could rebuild it, but that's going to put you well beyond the $500 you're thinking.

yeah 120k sounds right, every second timing belt change you should change the water pump and tensioner. the thermostat should be changed each time the belt is removed. at the same, you should flush your radiator each year to prevent early water pump failure, just be sure you don't dump the coolant on the ground. take it to Pepboys, they're the only place I know will recycle them.

also, an OE pump is around $70-90, I wouldn't waste moneys on a $200 nismo. btw, jerryrome has a 30% off promotion going on, you might wanna try them. it should be around $60 after the discount.

Just to make clear, $200 is the price the dealership was quoting (service dept)-I should call the parts dept and ask them the price... And yes, I think that is too much.
