Weight reduction vs. Mileage?
Just thinking.... how much does the back seat weigh? (bottom + top). I think it was said to be about 45Lbs-60Lbs... + how much does the front seat weigh?
What kind of mileage do you think you can save by loosing 100-200Lbs in overall weight? Just a thought...

The back seats (both top and bottom) weigh about 10lbs, no more. They are just foam. The front seats are about 40lbs each (for the power ones) and around 35lbs for non powered.
Losing weight is most helpful in acceration, not really highway driving. Unless you were losing 200lbs or more, I doubt you would see much difference in gas mileage.

ah, nuts. Thanks though. I can see loosing my backseat for awhile, since I don't really use it, + tinted windows so no one could really tell without really really trying, .. but the front seat(power) would be alot more notible, and even though I put it in/take it out in less than 5 minutes, it makes the car feel really open, and a little less safe.. (just feeling) + people could tell.... but if it was like +5mpg, then I'd do it

You want Weight reduction, try taking off all the hood's frame work. that's a good 45 lbs. then the spare tire and jack.50lbs the carzy counter weight in the back 35 lbs. then all the seats.. including the drivers seat.. and replace it with a bucket thats like 90 lbs.

What size of tire are you using? If you have big 17's or something aftermarket and heavy, you could get some wheels off of a Geo metro or something (I know, wrong bolt pattern) and get rid of some weight there. You could also take out all of the sound deadening material and the carpet, remove the car jack, heck even get rid of your hood altogether! You would probably look kind of funny without any doors, but that could be done too.

i think this thread is goin a lil too far. i think hes just wanting to improve gas mileage, not become a full blown street racer. There have been some good ideas of where to get rid of weight from w/o losing the look of the car though
