VG has two cams?

I was looking at the Haynes manual and it shows 2 camshaft sprockets at the top of the engine. I'm assuming that there is a cam behind each of these sprockets. I thought SOHC meant there was only 1 cam like a pushrod engine. In the manual it looks like there is a cam over each bank of cylinders.

One drives the internal turbo.

SOHC = single overhead cam. aka single cam for each head. V6 = two heads, thus 1 cam for each head = 2 cam total.

VE30DE. 2 cams per head. DOHC Dual overhead cam. Thus 4 cams total.

He said one cam LIKE a pushrod engine. (referring to a V8 with the cam in the block). He didn't actually say the VG had pushrods

Sort of...

VEs and VQs are VERY efficient, it is not like the old V8s where port and polish can give you 40+hp, basically just add more air/fuel now days.

Nope, push rod is from the bottom. Overhead valve does not require pushrods.

Not quite. Overhead valve means the valves are in the head (as opposed to a flathead engine like most lawnmowers). Even an old Chevy 350 is an overhead valve engine.
OHC (overhead CAM) is probably what you are thinking of. Although, there are a few overhead cam engines that do have short pushrods.
