VG has two cams?

VG has two cams?

I was looking at the Haynes manual and it shows 2 camshaft sprockets at the top of the engine. I'm assuming that there is a cam behind each of these sprockets. I thought SOHC meant there was only 1 cam like a pushrod engine. In the manual it looks like there is a cam over each bank of cylinders.

One drives the internal turbo.

SOHC = single overhead cam. aka single cam for each head. V6 = two heads, thus 1 cam for each head = 2 cam total.

VE30DE. 2 cams per head. DOHC Dual overhead cam. Thus 4 cams total.

He said one cam LIKE a pushrod engine. (referring to a V8 with the cam in the block). He didn't actually say the VG had pushrods

I see why nobody really messes with modding cams on a VE. Too much $$$

Sort of...

VEs and VQs are VERY efficient, it is not like the old V8s where port and polish can give you 40+hp, basically just add more air/fuel now days.

Nope, push rod is from the bottom. Overhead valve does not require pushrods.

Not quite. Overhead valve means the valves are in the head (as opposed to a flathead engine like most lawnmowers). Even an old Chevy 350 is an overhead valve engine.
OHC (overhead CAM) is probably what you are thinking of. Although, there are a few overhead cam engines that do have short pushrods.
