Drivablility problems 92 Max auto trans

Hello, new to this forumn....

I have a 92 Max, w/auto trans, 145K. Some times when it's raining or just really damp out, or I drive through a puddle my engine has a large loss of power and the idle jumps around. I have poured water on the engine and coil, sprayed water with a squird bottle and can not duplicate it. I have to kind of pump the gas pedal to keep the motor running sometimes. Changed the Plugs, wires cap and rotor, no help. Taken the cover off the coil and pured water on it, will not cause the condition to appear, totally stumped. I have changed the fuel filter too... I do get a gas odor also, but that can happen even if the drivabliity condition does not. Sometimes it can be raining and the condition will not occur at all?????? Any suggestions .....

Thanks

Check the O2 Sensor connector located by the rear motor mount . If it gets moister in it it can cause your problem . What happends is the moister in the connector transfers power from the heater power wire to the signal wire of the sensor and makes the engine think it running rich hence leaning it out and making it run bad . If it has moister in it . Blow it out and seal the connector..

Thanks, I'll give that a try this weekend. I have already use delectric grease on just about every connector on the top half of the engine thinking moisture getting in was causing the problem. What your saying makes sense also because if I drive through a small puddle on the Passenger side the condition occurs almost everytime.....

Dont bother spraying the top side of the motor, get under the car and start spraying, thats where water from the road gets, not realy much gets heavy on top of the motor.

must have had the senser replaced, the wire harness was cut and put back together with crimping connectors, which I redid while I was at it. At the end of the sensor, the wires just enter and there was no connector. But it appeared that the seal was not good as it was only hard plastic, so that is where I gooped it up with the Hi temp sealant... going to rain this afternoon for my ride home from work, so should know if it worked....
