VG30E - VG30DE Engine swap?
VG30E - VG30DE Engine swap?
Hey, I'm realatively new to the Maxima scene. My mom bought a 93 GXE Automatic back in the day new, and last year it became my car. I love it very much. However I always felt a bit disappointed that she got the VG30E instead of the VG30DE... I was just wondering if an engine swap would be reasonable in terms of price and complexity.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Putting a VE in a VG equipped car would be a lot of work, including wiring harness, motor mounts, new ecu, etc, etc, etc.....
Honestly you would be better selling your VG car and getting a VE powered car, you could even look for a 5 speed model....The swap is just a lot of work thats not really worth the effort when you can just buy one.

VG30DE swap
ok I know its easier to get a car with a VE. but im a VG lover and I have plans on take my maxima off the raod and making it a strip only car. So if i were to put a VG30DE in the maxima would it be the same as trying to put a VE in it. You know changing mounts ecu and all that stuff. and while im talking craziness if i were to make it rwd any ideas of what rear axel i should look into. Thanks for any input on my crazy ideas.
My suggestion:
Fabricate a frame
incorporate a VE30DE sideways
Put a RWD axel
Not helpful, but I hope you understand the futility of what you're doing.
If you want a RWD maxima-type car with a VG30E in it, look for an 87-88 Nissan 200sx. The thing weighs less than the maxima and is a coupe with good balance. 84-86 versions come turbo'd (less HP, but the same quarter mile time more or less) and provide easy power upgrades. The older SEs are far more popular than the 87-88.

Hate to overuse the mention of my favorite car but a Z31/Z32 300ZX would be a good choice for RWD, no idea how it compares to an old 200SX since I never really researched them despite the fact that my dad had one when I was young enough to fit in the back seat. The 300ZX always had higher ambitions than the 200SX and the following 240SX but I know the 240SX is supposed to outhandle a 300ZX or almost anything out there so you may have a good point with the 200SX.
Just make sure not to confuse them with later 200SXs, which are FWD with a GA16DE and really are nothing but a Sentra coupe.

mattyd-
1st off your right i will have to make my own frame or mod the j30 frame- i think im going make it for safety reasons. 2nd it will be a a VG30DE not a VE. #rd when it comes to the rwd axel i want the car to look as close to stock at possible from the outside. So i think the 200sx mite be to small but ill still look in to it cuz its a strong axel.
3g94MaxGxe- I agree with you on the z31/z32 with have alot aftermarket support. and a 240 is too small i was also think about using a primera drive line and rear axel. (and for all of you that slow in japan there is a awd primera) my buddy in chicago has on and its very soild.
thank you both for your input it gives me alot to think about.
