never thought it would happen to me one day but here it is and worse part is my glass window is down and now it wont go back up. from what i read around the forum if the motor still makes sounds but window doesnt respond then its the regulators.

i know this might sound stupid but is there any way that i can "hold" the window up for time being (need to make it move back up that is) knowing i wont have the time to do this until late next week? thanks guys....

OT: wheres the best place to grab one of these regulators.

edit: its the drivers side window btw

Yes, it sounds like a regulator. I held mine up by bending a piece of aluminum in an S shape, pulling the window up, then putting one end of the S piece of aluminum around the top of the inside of the door, and the other around the bottom of the window. Replacing regulator's aren't hard though, Brian (InternetAutoMar on the org) Sells them, and so does Ebay. Here is a good write-up:

Also, you'll need to take off the door panel in order to do the S piece aluminum thing.

thanks pearl...can always count on you...i did take the panel off but gave up right after seeing the inside..kinda like a geometry equation for me..LOL...ill give that S aluminum thing a try...it seems like you just need something to "hold" the glass up...

ok pulled apart the plastic cover on the panel and when i tried to push the glass window it can only go 1/4 all the way up not even. i tried to look what was holding it but cant.
anyways, i looked inside the panel and i saw what maybe caused the problem.

it seems that the metal wire got unhooked/misaligned with the wheel. and since i cant push the glass all the way up i wouldnt be able to take apart the window regulator and try to fix this.

heres a pic of how high the glass window goes up.

what now?

Hmm, you could try unhooking the window motor bolts (I think there's three of them) and try maneuvering it around until you can get the window up some.

there are 2 bolts that hold the window to the regulator mechanism. remove them and you can slide the window up by hand and either tape it up, or find something to hold it up from the bottom. I taped mine up. the packing tape withstood 60+ mph drives

it's soooooo much easier to just pull the front window glass out of the door. takes 2-3 seconds to slide it up, angle it, and finish pulling it out.

well, i forgot to say that it's kinda tough to get the window glass out when it's stuck down like that but it is still possible. just more difficult. get a wrench down there and you should be able to undo the 2 bolts that hold the glass to the track.

when i bought my 93SE the former jackass owner had told me the window didn't go down. I opened up the door panel and, to my awe, there was a 2x4 drilled into the metal slide the window runs up/down in. He had REMOVED the motor and regulator entirely and 'fixed' it by shoving wood into the door.

Still haven't fixed it since motors and regulators are expensive. God.

Don't do that. Not for the long-run anyway.

Regulators are cheap.
so are assemblies when pulled from a car that is being parted out.
you will also want the bolts for everything since yours probably aren't there.
I did see something like what you are talking about once before. It was 99 or so grand am that was bought by a dealer at a dealer auction. Some had shoved a 2x4 in there to keep the window up since the regulator had failed.

I would need both the motor and regulator. I doubt they're $45 total. Nevertheless, I'm looking into buying a set from a junker.

don't buy from a JY... at least not the JY I went to. i got charged MORE than dealer price, without knowing it. i know you can get a brand new one for $60.. dunno if that's the dealer price or if that's brian's price or whatever.

you might not wanna buy the regulator from a salvage yard coz, all those parts have been sitting in heat and plastic will harden over time. and more likely to break. if you wanna buy the motor sure but check this auction. free shipping and the price is $5.00 more.
