Did I get ripped off?

My mechanic put in a new "used" engine "from japan with low miles".
rebuild the tranny and put in a couple of new injectors (#3 & #5), all for a total of $2500.

Im in Cali.

An injector is like 80 bucks at a dealer, I think. Rebuilt tranny's are probably 1250-1750. Junkyard engine 500-1000. Installation of engine and tranny 500-1000. Doesn't sound to out of line for all of that work. Really depends on what shape the used engine is in, and what quality of transaxle rebuild was done.

it VERY possible...we got a JDM B18C last week had 2 dead injectors and the supposed amount of miles was 30k...the problem with a lot of these importing companies is now the usual "30-35k mile" claim is used by EVERYONE, so you never know what you're getting

I had a "low-milage" japan engine put in almost 2 years ago. Cost $1600 installed, and came with a 12 month/12k mile warranty. I've had zero problems with the engine itself since doing this.

750 for a rebuilt- that's cheap either for a rebuilt or to rebuilt. 1500 for engine w/o labor might be harsh bout right w/ labor

750 for tranny rebuils is GREAT. I paid 1600. Did you get a warranty on the tranny?

that's a decent price considering all the work involved...

750 for a tranny rebuild is cheap. my 5 spd rebuild was 850 and I pulled/installed the tranny myself.. all they did was crack open the case and install new bearings.

the engine and install for 1500 is a tad on the high side, but if you include having to troubleshoot injectors and replace two of them, then that's $400 in work right there.. so knock it down to 1100 for engine and install it's a pretty decent price.

with my 89 se i got an engine bought and installed for 1050 with one year parts and labor guarantee and i had my mechanic do it. i got the engine froim green leaf automotive recyclers no problem with engien and there warranty plan was excellent as long as a n ase certified mechanic put it in the gave warranty on labor it was cheap and has zero problems now...... you didnt get to bad a deal but for an 89 i dunno if i woulda dropped 2500 on it condidering you can find a newer one for around that price and may be nicer thats just my .02 if you like your car that much and its clean then it wasnt a bad deal.....
