I have a 92 SE 5 sp. but I have had probs w/ the VTC's and I want the more solid, efficient and just plain better VQ30DE or VQ30DE-K. Is it easy to put in the VQ into the 3rd gen.? I would just get a new maxima but Nissan must have laid off its styling department after the 3rd generation so I'll keep my car.

Yes its easy....

It will only cost you $3500 todo the swap. Now you will gain no hp but maybe 10lb-ft at the wheels. Its a total waste of money IMHO. Just get a VG30ET and be done with it if your bent on engine swaps .

VG30ET

My question is... why would I want a turbo VG? While turbocharging is of interest to me I want to start with an awesome engine before I apply boost. While a VG is a great engine, the breathing problems of two valves per cylinder plus timing belts to worry about make me not want that. Isn't the VG30ET for the 84-89 300Z turbo? Wouldn't turbo placement affect my installation? The reason I was thinking VQ is that stillen has a drop in supercharger that you can get a reliable 290-300 horses from. Also the weight savings from the aluminum block will help the handling. My goal for this car is to hit 13 in a quarter so I can embarrass mustang GTs, and I dont want to spend more than 3 grand to do that, while maintaining mileage and reliability.

Well the stock VG30ET puts down 200hp/227lb-ft at the flywheel where as the VQ30DE does 190hp/205lb-ft. The VG30ET will bolt onto your tranny with no problems. Have you ever seriously looked at a 4th gen engine bay. The VQ's use 3 engine mounts vs our 2 have different tranny mounts and drive axles, etc... Not only do you have to swap the engine but you need the entire tranny down to the hubs. Don't forget the 4th gens are lighter than 3rd gen VE's even with 6psi SC they only run around 13.9-14.3 with 100mph traps. Its enough to beat some GT's and stay with stock cobras. Where as if you had the VG30ET with a hybrid T3/T4 turbo, Z32 injectors/fuel pump, JWT ECU, manual boost controller, IC you could put down around 300FWHP at 12psi. Where as the most you can squeeze from the stillen SC which brings the grand total VQ + SC= $7k, is around 260-280hp at 8psi.
