I just recently had my alternator replaced in my 90 max. The mechanic told me my alternator was bad and was draining my battery. It cost me $230 for parts and labor. It all happened again wioth the exception of the lights coming on in my dash. I was driving last week and I noticed that my high beam light in the dash would stay on even when I tried to switch it off. Next thing I know my radio(sony M-600) would shut off and turn back on. It does not come at all now. Next thing I noticed my emergency brake and battery light came on in my dash too. So I now had my emergency brake, highbeam and battery lights on at the same time but the car was handling fine. Next thing I noticed was that my gauges got really dime as well as my other interior lights. And finally when I was driving my max just shut off on me and I had to get the car towed home. None of my lights would work for 5 minutes then the hazards would wourk and so would the interior lights. But the car would not start. I called my mechanich cus I just had a new alternator put in a week and a half ago. He told me it could be anything and I should bring the car back in. Does any one know what my cars problem can be? Thanx in advance.
One.

Sounds like your alternator is still playing up. Perhaps you have a short somewhere else in the system. When your alternator went bad last time did you replace your battery? If not, this could be part of the problem. When the alternator gives up you are running either primarily from the battery or a combination of the battery and the alternator. Once the battery is completely drained in damages the internals of it from which it never recovers. My suggestion would be to get a new battery and have the alternator retested with it under load i.e. headlights on, AC on etc.

I had about the same problem...

Last week I installed my battery backwards by accident. (it was dark and I was in a hurry It fried my alternator and I had to replace it. However, my e-brake light still came on and the radio cut in and out. Here is what was wrong:

There are two fusible links that are attached to the positive lead on my battery. One goes to the alternator and the other one goes to relay/fuse box that is in front of the battery. Check both of them. My fuse link that attached the battery to the fuse box was burned but not destroyed. This caused my weird electrical problems.

If that is the problem, you will have to order a new one from the dealership. Mine cost $9.30! However, if you get some 14 gauge fusible link wire and some wire nuts, you should be able to bridge the burned cable until you get your new one.

I hope this helps....

Yes I had the same problem with my 90 GXE. I know other people who had the same problem. You know wht the problem was? It was the Anti theft system. I disconnected it(under the steering wheel) and my battery worked good again.
