Is there any way to change the differential to a Limited slip in my car. I was told that its only available for the VE 5-speeds. If so is there any way I can customize it to work. Is there some sort of locker I can buy. I really need the extra trtaction.

For chris92gxe

When I saw "Changing to LSD" I thought we were talking about controlled substances. Extasy must not have been working! Anyway...If it were a regular rear drive axle you can get what they call the "spider gears" welded together. We did this in an old '77 malibu that we ran as a dirt track stock car. It basically gives you a posi-drive axle. Don't know if our max transaxles have anything in them similar to a spider gear, but it's a concept that could work. Question for you: Did you just paint over the red reflector panel on your rear deck lid, or did you have a steel panel made in place of the reflector?

Re: For chris92gxe

to put a front end posi on a maxima is possible but you need to remember two things... Front end posi requires an entire gear box and front axels, and if you are driving fast and you turn the wheel (say to make a left) you will go strait. this is because in a stock maxima, one wheel spins and the other one just rolls. A posi will make both wheels spin at the same rate, therefor redusing your turning radius. I had a posi on my maxima for about a month, it's great for smoke shows, and drag racing, but sucks for everyday driving. it's been about a year and i'm still looking for the equivalent to a differential lock, but i haven't found one. I think it would work out cheaper to make the car rear wheel drive and add a posi to the rear diff. <-- Basically that means it's impossible

There has to be a way to do this. How exactly does the LSD work in the 92+ SE's. I know that my auto used to lay down posi marks so I know its possible. I just dont understand how you can have posi for an auto but not for the 5-speed. It pisses me off cause I know that when I do my turbo swap I wont be able to get any traction unless I have on slicks. And basically I would only need one slick. How damn goofy is that. Damn maxima. And for "maxmizd27" as far as my rear panel goes I just used bondo and shaved the cracks and painted over the reflector. I think I'm gonna throw some sheet metal in the cracks when I go to paint the car. I dont want the bondo to crack in the future cause its a little thicker than its intended to be.

I've been told that the VE trannies will bolt up to the VG engines, but I don't know how accurate that is.
that's going to be your best bet as far as LSD goes.

I know there was a group buy on the Quaife LSD on 4th gens, but I don't know if they'd work in 3rd..
but then again, I've also been told the 5 speeds are the same in all maximas from 87 to 2000. Again, I dunno how accurate that is.
(obviously it's not going from the part #s)
