adding mods to an old max
OK, i've got a 92 Max SE with just under 230k on it and it runs virtualy perfect, no pings, ticks(except vtc),shakes or knocks. i would like to start adding mods like an underdrive pully, cai,a whole new exhaust system, ect. i've been told i need to rebuild the whole engine or else i would destroy it. is this true and if it is where should i get the stuff to do it?
thanks

If you are planning on keeping the car for a while, like several years, you could just mod it until it dies and then rebuild it since it sounds like you are willing. I have a VE with 130,000 and that is what I will do eventually. I'm going to add a bunch of parts and keep everything updated suspensionwise and when the motor gets tired I will rebuild it, possibly for turbo if I am making more money then. Just my $.02

like rosa said, if you plan on keeping it, go ahead and mod it. If your engine finally bites the dust, you can rebuild or buy a JDM and then you will have the mods for that one. Even if you blow the engine outright, the exhaust, CAI, etc will still be usuable on the rebuild or swap.
If my engine goes, I am just going to get another engine (maybe a JDM like spipedong or rebuild, depending on price) and keep my y-pipe, pop charger and fidanza with the car.
