How do you get the surrounding to fit? the dash kit is overlapping a bit of the HU. I saw some people with an Alpine installed and were able to fit it. So how did you do it. I'll post pictures.

I didn't even need a kit to install my Sony. The factory brackets worked just fine. Also, if u leave the trim plate on the HU, your dash panel(surrounding?) won't fit.

Yep, I have a 9815 installed and I just had to leave the trim plate off or I wouldn't have been able to put the dash panel on. The only thing I can think of is filing down the dash plate to accomodate the trim plate.

I don't have the plate on and the dash doesn't fit perfectly also. Around the AC controls and the dash kit, there's a gap.

I have my Alpine 9807 with the trim ring on, but behind the factory plastic. I think it looks cleaner and the HU doesn't stick out any farther than it has to.

I got the idea from the previous owner, who had an older black Alpine 7840 in that way. With black, it actually looks better, since the radio is virtually flush with the trim.

Looks very clean. How did you mount it farther back?

I'll have to ask the guy at the stereo shop (I am in a small town and I know him personally). I told him that I wanted this HU mounted the same as the previous one, since I liked the way it looked kind of flush in there.

I got a package deal on the HU and some other stuff I had done. I usually do my own install, but I just didn't feel like dealing with the headache of Bose wiring. Before, it had an adapter for the Alpine to run the Bose subs/speakers. I paid them to rewire everything. I have my door speakers running off of an amp mounted in the trunk and I figured it was worth the extra money to let someone else deal with all of that crap.

I have an Alpine and I did it just like RedMax92. Put the surrounding behind the dash but up close to close the gap.
