Big Problem?????

Wish I had heard about this site 3 years ago. I'm experiencing what I think is an electrical problem. I'll describe it as best as I can:
While accelerating (normal or wide open) the engine shuts down at around 2500-3500 RPM, like theres no electricity to the the plugs. I'll take it out of gear, the RPM's drop to idle, and then it continues on like nothing happened...back into gear and off I go. I can't find any pattern, all 5 gears, any speed, hot or cold. Just that it happens around 2500-3500. I'm hoping it's something I can fix myself. I know my limits as a mechanic, but can't afford to take it to a shop right now. I'll go ahead and throw in my broken search disclaimer, too.

might be a bad ground but then the engine will completely shut off. It could also be that your ecu is going out the door.

Hmmm, weird, the first thing I would do is pull the computer codes if you havn't done so already. Unfortunately it is usually kind of hard to diagnose problems on a forum like this because all we can do is take guesses as to what the problem is. How often does the car do what you described? Every time you drive or just every so often? Have you checked all your electrical connections for corrosion? The problem could be a number of things, MAF (mass air flow sensor) going bad, fuel pump going bad or shorting out somewhere, etc.

I checked everything I could think of as far as electrical shorts. Diagnostic codes read all normal
Didn't want to hear ECU possibility, wishful thinking...what do they run$$ If that turns out to be the problem?
Anyone have any input on cracked coils like how bad before it affects things?
