No, there is no such thing. The only possibility is that someone had an engine swap done, which would probably be the first VG to VE swap seen on this board.
Can you post some pics? You absolutely sure it's a VE engine and the year is 91?

In order to verify this, we would need pics of the engine, the front, the rear and the interior. Like Jaguax said, it would be the first swap on the board.
Your car may have been built in 1991, but it was a 1992 Model Year car and the VIN would show it as a 92, but maybe the build sheet or something says 91.
The only other possibility is that it is a RHD Asian market car. I think one of the New Zealanders here has a 91 VE.

most likely, the car was produced in 91 and marketed as a 1992 model car. The VE engine was around in 1991 and put in cars but they were sold as 1992 models. hope that clears things up. when your looking for parts you look for 1992 model year. early 1991 and late 1990 cars sold as 91's had the vg there was no VE yet it was still in production.
Logan and chchmax don't count. I think the VEs came out for you guys in New Zealand (RHD version) in 91. So they really do have 91 VEs down there. chchmax, yours would have been one of the last 91s made. Really, I think it would be a 92 produced so late.
The LH drive (US version) Maximas are going to be 92 cars. Just like most every car, you can buy the next model year in the late summer/fall. My dad bought a brand new Dodge Ram in the fall of 1993. It was a 94 truck.

yup its a 91
I checked my VIN number online, it is a 91 se that SHOULD have a SOHC 3.0 litre 12 valve engine, but i have a DOHC 3.0 Litre 24 valve engine... go figure... somebody must have done a swap before i bought the car.. where can you find the VIN number for the engine, the one thats actually ON THE ENGINE, not just the one slapped on the fire wall? HELP I LOST MY CHILTONS MANUAL!
why don't you post a pic of your engine?
Maybe someone just put a sticker on your SOHC VG somewhere to confuse you.
The VG to VE swap is pretty complicated and involves a lot more than just sticking in a VE. I can't remember all of the details (since I would just sell me VG and buy a VE before even attempting this), but I think there are several wiring harnesses and electronic stuff that has to be swapped, along with the tranny and the axles. That's why there isn't a single person that any of us know of that have done this.

I have a 1992 Maxima with a quad cam engine. Thats 4 cams in total. Its just another way on saying DOHC, if u wanna get technical thats the way it should be said as the engine has 4 cam not only 2.
Polska Hick: What colour are your cam covers RED or silver?

HOLY "BLANK"
I've always perceived the term "Dual Overhead Cams" as two cam shafts total.... are you saying that it means 2 cam shafts over each of the three cyclinders, making a total of 4? If thats true, then i'm gonna go smack myself, I only have sohc then...

That is correct...it is 4 cams total.
Dual overhead (not heads) cams. As in 2 cams over each head. one cam for intake and one for exhaust on each head.
The SOHC cam motors have 2 cams. One per head which means it has the intake and exhaust lobes on one camshaft.

There you go. That one is on the house!
wow, that didn't work very well..... well the point is i've only been working on cars for less than a year, i started when i realized i had a dud and i didn't have the money to be bringing it to the shop all the time. so i got all the repair manuals i could get my hands on and learned as much as i could... I guess i over looked the true defenition of Dual Over Head Cams, i feel pretty dumb, the explaination is in the name... two cam shafts over each head. I always just thought it meant just a total of two camshafts... i think its a mistake any person new to the world of auto repair could make and take for granted...
but i realize i'm an idiot, can you all forgive me?

Trust me you're forgiven. What you have just stated here is 100x times beyond what most of the yahoos here do when they are wrong(aka Brian V). I commend you.

yeah, only problem with that is, if you think down those lines, how would a sohc V6 work with only 1 camshaft??
Subaru call their boxer engines quad cams, and it does sound cooler, cause it sounds like you got more cams!
