electrical problems...

so i've been having a ton of electrical problems on my 91 Maxima SE...

the fuse for the auto seatbelt keeps blowing out if i leave it in... apparently the fuse that controls the "unsecuring" ie. opening the door) and the securing (when you close the door) is different...

so in my car it's the SECURING FUSE which is labeled "Engine Ign" (i think... the fuse box under the dash left column, very bottom 10amp,red, fuse) keeps blowing out. sometimes it wont blow out even when i leave it in... but then sometimes it randomly does.

it wasnt that big of a deal until it started blowing my headlights out. Specifically the driver's side lamp.

i also had the same problem as some of the other guys in teh older posts where their engines would sometimes crank but not start after rain, or have a extreme loss in power with vibration.

i've checked the distributor cap and it doesnt seem cracked or anything...

could it be my altenator that is malfunctioning? any help would be greatly appreciated

ps. i've just been lurking around this forum and reading this and that and i've learned so much~ still young but growing.

Sounds like a wire is shorting somewhere.

I wonder if it is one problem, or actually several problems. I think that Nissan has a life time warranty on it's seat belts-so consider calling the dealer and see if that is true-if so, they can figure out the motorized belt problem. Otherwise chiltons has at least rudimentary drawings-or maybe you can convert to manual canadian seat belts. Is your car stock or do you have the corners "rewired?" That can some times cause a headlight to blow-make sure the wiring to the head light looks ok-could have been damaged by high watt headlamps, rewiring, or just old age. Sometimes a bad headlamp switch on the steering column causes a headlight not to work-not sure if it blows the headlamp though. The next time your car won't start, see if all the usual engine dummy lights are going on-one guy says one lamp doesn't illuminate when his car won't start-?significance/meaning?. Otherwise check plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, and fuses. Mine will start but only after alot of cranking. I don't think it is the alternator-but autozone, etc. will check it for free. The other thing to consider is trying to start in neutral or push forward on the shift lever in Park to see if that will allow the car to start-I am wondering if my shift lever is worn out.
