Side Door Moldings.... On or Off?

I washed my car today and noticed that the side moldings on the passenger doors were starting to get faded (well actually yellowish) on top.

I thought about it in the past and just cant make up my mind, do you guys think it would look better with them on, off, or no idea?

I didn't vote, but I am also considering this. My car must has one (passenger side front door) that is the wrong color and it irritates me almost as much as the light blue pinstripes the first owner put on the spoiler and on the lower part of the doors...argh

I think removed side moldings with a spoiler look good, but if there's no spoiler...leave them on. I don't have a spoiler but mine were damn near brown, and everytime I waxed my car the wax would leave a haze on the molding. If I were you I'd get all the materials you need to get the GLUE off, then go one molding at a time, get the glue off, then going onto the next one. I took all mine off at the same time, and I still have a bunch of glue, and everytime I go to tackle it it looks so challenging I end up never starting.

The only reason I left mine on is b/c dings are a problem in Vegas. Especially on windy days where the door catches wind like a sail!!!! I hate stupid people.

The Maxima is the only car that I know of that has no holes drilled into the door to hold the molding. I think that the car looks better with out the moldings. i'm in the process of removing them.

Yeah, I'm sure you've seen Accords without moldings. lol Holes all down the side of the car. Do they think that looks good or something?

I can't believe you left them on! Those things must be at least 2 pounds of weight reduction (j/k)

I live in the Columbia River Gorge. You don't know wind until you've been to the windsurfing capital of the world...I still might take mine off and just park a little farther out in the parking lot.

The bump stops are not that effective anyway, if you look down the side of the car, they line up with the widest arc on the door skin, so your door will get hit anyways, might as well take them off and look nice instead....

$0.02

Ok, then you park an equal car next to yours and slam the door open. You'll see that most cars, the way to edge of the door is curved, it will hit the molding instead of the door. It's there for a reason and it has saved me a lot of times. I will walk up to my car and see a nice fresh piece of paint on my molding. Whew! Glad I didn't remove them.

I thought they were for shopping carts cuz I see that a lot, someone rolls it in the stall thinking it made it and then it turns the other way and slam into the side of the car.

I say take it off they dont work well enouh to keep them on and they look sick especially on my white car. I have cleaned them before but it just gets real dirty in a couple of weeks and their a pain to clean

Since the name of the poll is "What do you think looks the best?".... then I definitely voted for OFF!! But I haven't found the time in amongst my other mods. Plus, door dings pi$$ me off more than anybody. I am terrified of them. I will park a mile away from the grocery store just to get a 12pack of beer.

I like 'em on......its the indented strip on the door that gets me when they are removed. If you removed them, and filled the strip so the door was smooth, that'd be tight.

if you filled in the indent in the doors it wouldnt make sense, there would be no point to the defining lines in the front and rear bumper

That looks pretty good!! How did you take them off perfectly without leaving the glue residue??

IMHO if the paint on them is fading and the rest of the paint on the car is good, then they need to come off. Luckily, the guy I bought my max from just got the bumper and moldings painted...

actually it wasnt him (even though I like blaming him for stuff). I had noticed that someone voted on it to bring it back up. Then David posted on it. When it was first brought back up I noticed the date of the last post was still in may but remembered that if you vote on a poll that it bumps the thread back up.
