Friend just got a VE

He loves it to death, it's got 97 SE wheels...but there's 1 thing wrong and I THOUGHT I could fix it, but before I attempt I'm gona make sure of what it is...

Whenever he'll put it in drive, and just start goin....1st gear will shift at ~ 3k RPM. But when it shifts...it HITS so hard...like a jolt. Kinda like how the VQ will do if you unplug that sensor wire next to the stock airbox. I looked under his hood for one of those, didnt see one.

I noticed the tranny was VERY bright silver...so I can tell it's been replaces recently...how can I help him out?

Resister is unhooked. I'd look harder. Not that hard to find.

Look around the drivers side strut tower, I think it is around there.
