Dash Removal
Dash Removal
Replaced my back speakers today. Threw those old Clarions away and installed two Kenwoods
The sound is amazing. Anyway...I was reading Craig's tutorial on how to remove the dash a few weeks ago. Today I was bored, so I gave it a shot. I removed everything fine, until I got to the outer dash around the gauges. (The Big One) I can't seem to lift it over the stearing column cover. I tried removing it, but it's not coming lose. Any idea's on what to do? Craig's site is down
(Craig if you want hosting, drop me a email at sav@pureneo.com I will hook you up for free)
Thanks to anyone who can help.

that part is a little tricky
I've seen one manual where it says to remove the steering wheel plastic cover (5 screws on the bottom and it pops off) but to do that I'm pretty sure you need to remove the lower dash piece (9 or so screws including one hidden in the door jamb) so it's a lot of extra effort. You will need to push up on the middle of that large piece a little. It does scrape a tiny bit if you're not careful but I've never been too worried about that.
all my stuff is on geocities so it'll be back up within an hour or so. It just goes down when it exceeds the bandwidth. I appreciate the hosting offer, but it'd be a pain to move all that stuff over and it works 90% of the time so I think I'll just leave it alone. Thanks anyway.

When me and my friend did it we used a dremmel and cut that little plastic piece that was hitting the steering wheel when we were trying to lift it up and out. I was swapping my old cut dash with a better looking dash.Try pushing a the steering wheel all the way down but not too much force on it and push the dash a little further up. It's a little easier putting it back in though. Good luck

get white gauges from an SE - they come stock and are easy to swap out. The odometer comes out with a couple screws so you can keep the correct mileage on your car too
check out ebay, local junkyards or www.car-part.com for gauges

here's what i do: i put the steering wheel all the way down, then squeeze the dash peice while pulling it up and out, and after i get that bottom part over the steering wheel column, i just slide it out to the right. it barely scrapes but it's not noticeable at all
try not to bend it THAT much though. The hardest part for me was disconnecting that wire that goes to the clock. There wasn't enough slack on the wire plus with my pudgey fingers...takes awhile before I actually get the plug disconnected
