speedo not working

so i just bought an 89 5-spd off ebay the other day...i'm driving home and i notice the speedo not working...the tach works fine the but speedo doesn't...so i figured i'd swap my gauges from my wrecked max and everything will be fine...today i do that and the speedo still doesn't work...is there a speed sensor on the tranny that could possibly be bad?? and now my odometer doesn't work either...any help would be appreciated...thanks

it could be the speed sensor. the reason the odometer doesn't work is because it runs off the speedometer. there's a little cable from the odo to the speedo on the back of the cluster

djslinkyz- I've taken apart a few clusters and there is no cable, there are wires (electrical) but no cable (mechanical).

white90se- IIRC you must use a 5spd speed sensor, I do not remember if the VE 5spd VSS will work with the VG 5spd. (VSS=Vechical Speed Sensor)
