I just had it istalled. I can hear and feel the difference. I think this is the best mod. BTW, to anyone who is thinking of getting a y pipe, go with Warpspeed.

I bought one from warpspeed too but have yet to install it. How bad was it to take the stock one off? I am kinda worried about the rusted bolts.

lol....nevermind just noticed you had a 2003 i guess you wouldn't have too much rust on there.

. . . venting...

I had taken my WSP y-pipe and Magnaflow Cat to a local muffler shop, where I was told that the WSP pipe wouldn't fit correctly because of a rod that's near the y-pipe that, according to this guy, was too close to the WSP y-pipe and that it would "hit" it while I was shifting (manual tranny). He showed me this groove in the original "y" that was designed to be there because, according to him, this "rod" moves, but in all actuality, according to Dallas at WSP, this "rod" doesn't move at all, and that what I needed to be more concerned with was the clearance of the bottom of the WSP y-pipe and the top of the factory sway bar. (Can anybody tell me what that "rod" down there is for, just FYI if nothing else... It looks like a flat, black strip of thick metal with some kind of rods leading up under the car and attaching somewhere under there, near the path of the y-pipe, in the vicinity of the underside of the stick shift assembly... was kinda dark, so it's hard to describe it.) I recently had my engine mounts replaced, so clearance wasn't an issue at all - there was plenty of space. The length and the fitment of the WSP y-pipe, from what I saw, were perfect as Dallas described it - I just think this a$$hole at the muffler shop didn't want to do the work, and was just coming up with an excuse that he figured I'd buy so he didn't have to do it and could go make some more money swapping out catalytic converters... that much, he admitted to me. He told me that he made more $$$ in less time swapping out catalytic converters than just about anything else they did at that shop ($130 to switch out a cat, 25-45 minutes of "labor" for him).

In his "professional" opinion, I was wasting my time with these "performance" parts (he also told me that my Magnaflow Cat was too small, because it was shorter in length than the catalytic converter that is on there now). Won't be going back there, that's for sure...

I'll go to another place next week. I don't have the patience to do it myself right now... I just want it over and done with so I can move on to the next mod - the suspension. Sorry about the vent, guys... I had to get this sh@t off my chest before Mother's Day... :

As for WSP, I give them mad props. I'm sure that the WSP shop was closed at the time I sent the e-mail to them about my episode at the muffler shop, but Dallas @ WSP replied to my e-mail while I was out all afternoon today. He carefully explained to me what I should be concerned with, and explained it all to me very clearly. I just wish I could have contacted him while I was at the shop earlier today, so that he could let this know how to do his own job... I guess it all happened for the best, though - these guys wanted $165 to do the labor on installing the y-pipe & cat... I, unfortunately, had to pay $50 labor because the guy did pull the old y-pipe apart before his "discovery", and had to re-install it so I could leave.

Live & Learn...

crapsticks thats a big reply. Sucks that he was a lazy *** or whatever. I probably would have thrown a fit over the $50. Did he even use new gaskets?

@MrGone...

NOPE! He was only going to use the new O-Rings that came with the WSP y-pipe and whatever else was included with it... Nothing else.

was a pain to install not because of the bolts being stuck but because i was working in such a tight space on my back. good clearance but snug fit, i hope it doesn't stress my front exhaust manifold (so far no broken studs...knock on wood). good mod.

I think I need to replace my stock y-pipe with my WSP one ASAP. I had a really worn flex section so there was a slight exhaust leak. Well now there is a large exhaust leak I was accelerating pretty hard and when I shifted into 3rd there was a loud pop and then it sounded like I had no exhaust lol. So now it is very loud to drive my max. Oh well this will just give me more motivation.

i agree i mean its not like your installing new VTCs or rebiulding the tranny its only 7 nuts and with the money you save you could buy an impact wrench or a UDP

yeah, muffler shops get you good, mostly just from the ease of using a lift.

Hey subs, aren't there 8 bolts? (3 front flange, 3 rear flange, 2 cat flange). Plus, the o2 sensor and then the o-rings and cat gasket.

I gave a guy $20 and 12-pack of beer to use his lift, then he ended up helping me out (and using his air tools, yaaay). I could have done it myself, but my garage is about 80 years old and has a dirty wooden floor. It's more like a barn than a garage.

This (y-pipe) is actually a good mod to do yourself. There really isn't much to screw up and you can learn something about your exhaust system. That reminds me -- I need a new garage and better tools.

I'm thinking about getting a jack and stands from my place of work (b)Lowes as an excuse/motivator to put my Y on myself. I had a shop look at and give me and estimate...like 137. No thanks. He said a lot of the bolts were rusted out, which i expected. So what size/type of bolts should I get to replace the rusted ones? My WSP pipe came with 3 gaskets...thats all I need right?

Ok i'm done Hi-jacking this thread.

I wouldn't mind doing this myself now that I had that b.s. experience at the muffler shop. I may just invest in an impact wrench just so can have one for install meets, etc. I'm going to check with a mechanic friend of my brother's and see if he can help me out with it.

BTW --> Does anybody know about how much the flanges for the 2/5" in/out MagnaFlow/Carsound Cat would cost? I ordered one that was brand new, but didn't come with the flanges

there are no flages for the mufler it just gets welded onto the b pipe

if the car sound cat didnt come with flanges you should be able to go to any local mufler shop and buy 2 flanges for between 2 and 5$ each

Man i feel ghetto, I installed this with a jack, jackstands and some wrench set i got a couple years ago by the sidewalk in front of my house. Only had one rusty bolt that required a breaker bar and some for from the outside of the car.

Great mod and great people at WSP

@Jack.

Did you just to the y-pipe, or did you do the catalytic converter too?

BTW --> How's the CAI going? I got a new digicam, but I haven't been able to update my website for some reason. I may have to do something drastic like add another page, then delete one of the old ones or something. I've been deleting pics as I go that I won't use, so I don't know what's up with cardomain lately.

OOOOhhhh helll yes mee too I had the same damn problems, I just got ****ed off and took it to a muffler shop close to me. But in the interim i used liquid wrench and a impact gun to break the rust the front bolts on the y-pipe come off fast it was just the bolts on the front of the cat tight space for the tools i had!!!!
