Connected wrong battery terminals.....
Connected wrong battery terminals.....
I know.... I know.....did something really stupid. I bought a 90 SE 5 spd the other day, but the battery in it was no good. My friend gave me a used battery from his body shop. When I went to connect the cables, my lack of patience and just sheer carelessness, failed to put the correct cable to teh positive and negative! DUH! I charged the battery, and when i connect teh cables, there is a clicking noice coming from teh fust panel to the right of the battery tray. I pulled the cover on teh panel, and it seemed to be coming from a brown fuse....it is labeled "anti theft" . WHen i pulled it, and reconnected the battery, it wouldnt click anymore.....but still no juice flowing through the system. Please help with what appears to be a careless mistake.......and stupid too!

I did this once myself (first day I had my old GXE.. killed the battery in the driveway listening to the radio, and just swapped it out with one I had in the garage)..
but I connected it bassackwards once before.. ended up blowing two of the fusible links... I replaced those and everything was good again. check the links and the fuses themselves.

was it the fuse to the right of the battery? how much was it at the auto parts shop? yeah, i know...."moron".....trust me, dude..i feel like one after pulling that off. the battery top was dirty, and i "assumed" that i knew which one was which....well, you know what assuming does...
Yup.. well the battery posts on the Maxima are reversed in polarity to a regular one. since they're offset to the side of the battery's center, it makes a difference where the + and - are on the case. most imports are reversed from domestics, thus the reason there's lots of different batteries floating around out there. it's the same reason I plugged mine in backwards too.
Always be sure to check + and - whenever you exchange batteries. stuff like this can result.
(not b!tching at you man, just making sure everyone else udnerstands that. anyone could make the mistake if they're not paying attention)

though it's never happened to me or my max, i had to replace the alternator fusible link (about 120 A)in a mercury villager. cost about 2.00 from NAPA. it was a pain to remove since it was a blade-type fuse which has to be unscrewed.
you will need to find the fusible links box in the engine bay near the battery. look in the clear tops to see the condition of the fuse. it should be pretty obvious which ones are blown. definitely check the alternator link. there may be others.
Thanks to you all who enlightened me on this problem......I changed the relay and everything is alright now, there is juice flowing through the electrical system now. .......ya know, I never thought i would be that careless to cross the battery terminals, but I suppose $h!t happens. Thanks again.....I appreciate learning anything about these cars that we enthusiasts I can from you all.
