The Best Aluminum Flywheel?

I'm doin' a tranny swap to 5spd (VE) and have a question. Who makes the best aluminum flywheel. Well, has anyone had good/bad experiences with the ones below...

(1) Fidanza, $334, Import Car Parts Plus (Group Buy)
(2) SPEC, $353, Import Car Parts Plus (Group Buy)
(3) Unorthodox Racing, $349, Custom Maxima
(4) Stillen, $407, Stillen

They all are priced about the same but which will last the longest?

Thanx,

Matt

I have one VE Fidanza left that I can ship out Monday for $350.. no waiting on them to get their crap together.

How long will they last? indefinitely. You can buy replacemend steel friction discs for them, but they run $100 each from Fidanza. you can also resurface them once before replacing the disc.. so in theory the flywheel will last though two clutches without having to replace the friction disc. That's longer than you'll keep the car.

I had both the Stillen and the Fidanza..

I think I seem to remember seeing the AASCO stamp on the Stillen, but the Stillen was also a 1/2 lb heavier than my Fidanza.. so who knows..

Thanx Guys,

I was kinda leaning towards the Fidanza anyway. Is that $350 shipped (just checkin')? If so we can work something out. I could order it on Tuesday. I'm goin' to bed soon and have an interview on Monday so it'll have to be then.

Also, does it come with hardware?

Thanx

yeah, for most of us, but for you?

The Fidanzas come with new bolts that hold the Pressure Plate to the Flywheel. You reuse the rest of the bolts.

Dont think so. Jeff92se decided to use his stock ones when we installed his. I used the ones included with the Fidanza on both my car and Chris's car. (they have lock washers while the stock ones do not).

hmm.... seems kind of strange they'd use lock washers considering the pressure plate is basically acting like one large lock washer for those bolts. the pp keeps constant pressure on those bolts. oh well... guess i might have to drop the tranny again and see what is going on with this thing. the disk probably got glazed with my luck. maybe i should just get spec's stage 5 iron disk...

I agree. I guess we'll just have to find out.

On another note, i'm gettin this 5spd tranny from a yard. They already have it pulled from the car & chances are the hardware is scattered everywhere. What is needed besides the clutch assembly and flywheel hardware. I know I will need the stuff to bolt it to the engine and all the stuff for the swap. I'm guessin' I'll just have to figure it out when i get there.

I'll get in touch w/ya on Tuesday Matt,

Lata

Fugi, sorry, but another member sent me the $ for the last one just a few hours ago.

I have an OEM flywheel that's been lightened about 3lb already.. you'll need to resurface it, but it's in good shape. pulled it out of my car when I installed the Fidanza.
I also have a factory weight one that's pretty rusty. it'll still work fine, but definitely needs resurfaced.
I highly suggest buying new fasteners from the dealer for these bolts- they're all pretty heavy duty bolts and I wouldn't trust something like this to the local parts store goons to get bolts.

nah, not really..
my TPS is acting up sometimes, so the car jerks a little bit when I'm at about 5% throttle at 1500-2000 rpm, but that's about it. if it starts doing it, I just push the clutch in and let the engine return to idle, then let out when I'm ready to accelerate again..

I can't honestly tell you if it's worse with this flywheel or not, but I've had it happen in other cars as well- like my dad's chevy 1500 work truck- so it's not directly caused by the flywheel being too light or anything.

I wouldn't worry about daily driveability on the flywheel- you will hardly notice any difference, if at all.

I HIGHLY recommend the Fidanza flywheel! I got one for my Vg and it weighed in at 9 1/4 lbs on a digital scale! They list it as 12.5lbs or something so 3 1/4lbs less is even better! I think the stock vg flywheel is about 23-25lbs.

No, I don't have any more. It was a one time purchase on mine. the guy I was getting them from dissappeared, and I'd have to get another deal of 10 minimum to get close to that price again- which just isn't going to happen with 3rd gens. It took me over a year to sell the first 15 I bought. not going to do it again.
