Rebuilding rear calipers?

Rebuilding rear calipers?
My rear calipers have ripped piston boots. I was thinking of rebuilding them but I looked in the FSM and they are pretty complicated with the e-brake and all. Has anyone ever done this? I realize it is just a matter of taking things apart and then putting them back together, but there are a ton of tiny rings and pieces. Basically this boils down to economics vs ability: a rear rebuild kit is ~$35 per side from the dealer, while a rebuilt caliper is $75 from autozone. Adding to the problem is that the current calipers are painted with Folia-Tec paint, and I gave the extra away, so I'd need to buy another kit which is $35. Thanks for any advice.

I vote for rebuild.. If you've got the FSM, it's not bad.
yeah, it's a PITA due to the tiny parts, but it's nothing that's impossible to do.
the rebuild kit should be $35 per axle, not side... (you only need one kit for both calipers)
Might check with EvilBill and get his input on it. (I've sent him a PM to look at this thread)

Yeah, the rebuild kit for the rears is about $40 and covers both caliper sides, not just one.
You have to be REAL patient on this endeavor. It's not for the ansy or easily frustrated. It can be a PITA to do. If have the time, get a rebuild kit. If you don't, then go get a reman. caliper.

stupid haynes manual just says it should be left to professional.....................however, the home mechanic can remove the caliper and bring it to a remanufacturer.
Mizeree_X , would you be able to scan the fsm picture. i have to rebuild one of mine before putting the rear discs on my car, so i have the time, but i didnt wanbt to spend the money at autozone. thanks
