electric static shock

Our 92 maxima gxe has been with us for 2 years and it has been a great car. However, there's alot of electric shock when you get out of the car and close the door.

Anyone knows what could be the problem?

Thanks.

my 92 se does the same thing, i always thought it was due to my fabric seats but i'm not 100% sure. i've been meaning to ask the same question but never got around to it.

its just static electricity. you can buy a strap that goes onto the underside of the car and touches the ground, this normally solves the problem.

yeah, nothing to worry about. it tends to happen a lot more in dry climates and less so in humid areas. that's why people usually experience this during the winter when the air is less moist.

some tires build up more static electricity than others, I heard it is due to less "carbon black" used in some models-some high effieciency Michelins were having consumer complaints about static shock.

I dont have this problem with my car, or any of them really. Infact the only time I've ever been shocked by a maxima was after a long drive down to oregon with antonthegrey in his 89se 5spd, we were at a gas station, I got out and ZAP! wtf? lol.

Just out of habbit I always touch the car during or after I get out just to make sure (rather get in the habbit of doing it all the time than just at gas stations and forget to do it and risk starting one of those fires .

Reminds me of football, and being dragging your feet on the astro-turf then 'poking' someone on the back of the neck, ear, elbow, etc and ZAPPP!
