coolant leak!!!!
coolant leak!!!!
I am leaking coolant i guess somewhere (either through or near) the exhaust manifold studs that i am havign replaced. My mechanic doesn not think it is a blown headgasket since my 91' max only has 110000 on it. When i dropped off the car he said there was not coolant in the resevoir tank, when i just filled it a few days ago. I also saw the leakage coming from the rear manifold area. What coudl this be? the previous owner also just instlled a new radiator. I just got the car about 2 months ago.
Heator core in/outlets are on the firewall. You also might want to check the bottom portion of the throttle body. It has two small coolant lines running to it. Could be a freeze plug in the block also.
In addition to what Jeff said. There are also coolant running to thru the manifold and IACC. They're not going to be as much as leak coming from there comparing to the main lines. However, you should check all of the valves. Most of the hoses that you see with a fabric reinenforcement inside are more than likely a coolant line. One way to tell is to pull it out and if you'll see some liquid oozing out. That's them. Most of those hoses (non-main hoses) tend to dry up over time. And since most of these little hoses are very small in diameter. If I were you I'd just install some silicone hoses there. They're a little expensive but hey they take more abuses with very little complaints. And no, they don't need to have fabric reinenforcement inside, only the main lines need it. The little ones don't (10mm or smaller in diameter).
There are drain bolts on each side of the block just under both exaust manifold. There is also a "Bleeder Screw" on the throttle body. It is about 1 o'clock from the last "n". Those the locations are used when flushing the cooling system. I also read a post that there are large plugs on the heads that are known to leak. Also check hose connections for a white powder/paste by the joints. It's a sign that coolant has leaked there. I hope this helps...
