Engines

My friend and I are having an arguement. And I say that no '89 or later maximas had 4 cyl's, all were the vg30 or vq etc. And he says some 3rd gens had 4 cyls. Anyone know for sure?

No 89-newer Maximas have anything but 6 cylinders.

92-94 SE = VE30DE
All others 89-94 = VG30DE

0 gen - 810 rwd model - the humble Stanza (aka Bluebird) had the L24 fitted and sold as Stanza Maxima to denote it as a executive model. Was not a true Maxima because it was still sold as a Stanza.
1st gen - 910 rwd model - had L24 detuned 2.4 liter inline 6 from the 240Z.
2nd gen - U11 fwd model - was the first to get the VG30E engine. In Japan they also had VG20E & VG20ET engines - all V6's.
3rd gen - J30 model - VG & VE engines in US & Japan - other markets only got VG engines. Japanese models all 3 liters as the VG20's didn't provide enough power for the heavier cars.
4th gen - A32 model - VQ 3 liter engines. In Japan, Maxima known as Cefiro (as it replaced the rwd A31 Cefiro) with VQ20DE, VQ25DE & VQ30DE engines.
5th gen - A34 model - as above.
6th gen - maxima known as something else - can't remember the name but it starts with P... Again, everyone else gets VQ35DE's, Japan has VQ25DE. Edit: Jap Max is Teana.

VQ engine has been around for 10 years & is still winning awards as one of the smoothest V6's around.

If someone has a 4 cylinder maxima, it's had a transplant as none left the factory without 6 cylinders.

To avoid further confusion, I was just being sarcastic when I wrote this.

4 cylinder maximas were never produced, and I doubt they ever will be.

Lucky you edited that post, fella Just kidding...

Yeah, would be boring forum if no-one had any fun - as Bart Simpson would say: Aye Carumba!

(anyone guess I'm a Simpsons fan )

Yeah, I edited because originally I called you a newbie, but that was really low Good to hear that they have the Simpsons in NZ too

Just to keep these posts legit, here is a site with maxima FAQ's and stuff. Scroll down ironchefigor to about half-way down and there is a chart with all the available motors for our cars. Hope this helps.
