uhhh

I was leaving the local casino tonight... and as i was driving down the ramp my car just went crazy and started to jerk. i was making a turn around the corner and was in 2nd gear, and as i hit the gas it started jerking and reving way up. so at first i thought i was just taping the gas (or atleast thats what i tryed to tell myself) then as i was getting on the main road it did it again. its like when you just jab the gas in 1st or 2nd gear. im thinking clutch is near the end (130xxx miles on it) and thats kinda what im hoping....anyway wasnt sure if this was somthing anyone has heard of or not.
thanks
Steve

With the engine idling, give the MAF a tap with a screwdriver, and see if the engine speed changes, or stalls. That will verify any MAF troubles. Just tap it, if you hit it too hard you can damage it.

hmm, might also check the coil packs for cracks or if possible have them tested. Sounds kind of like the "VE hesitation" thing a lot of us have had.

MAF, if old, will develop cracks in the black seal around the top. if you have any water or contaminants in there, even a wee bit, the car will become nearly undrivable. and the problem is fixable only if the MAF is replaced with a new one.

all 3rd gen MAFs are the same. auto/5 spd won't matter. anything from 89-94 will work.

Sorry to sound dumb, but where is the MAF and what does it look like? I know it has to do with airflow...but i keep getting it confused with the black rubber thing that brings air into the stock intake...anyone got a pic?

think about it for a minute.. MAF = mass airflow sensor.

so it has to do with air, and it's a sensor. common sense would dictate that it's something with wires on it, and that it's on the intake somewhere.

i have no clue what that is....

also, i started my car today to see how bad it was running. i think just letting it sit made it WAY worse or something. now it wont go above 2500 RPM and it smells like atleast one of my cylinders isnt firing. could this be bad coils???? its coming from the cylinder 6 i think (back side on the drivers side???) also when i shift its like im just dumping the clutch, really rough shifts. and until its warmed up it just kills on me. well i went about 4 months with no problem now i think ill be putting some cash into the car finally.
Thanks
Steve
