question about underdriving
I was wondering what is involved with putting an under drive pulley on my vg. I know the obvious stuff like putting it on and changin the belts, but do i need to do a master reset on the cars computer or need anything else done to the electronics, it already has a cai and muffler. The y pipe and high flow cat are comming in the next couple weeks as are the springs and struts

With a UDP, you're accomplishing two things, changing the ratio of the accessory drive to reduce power loss through the accessory drive, and to increase rpm threshold. The accessories on an engine take power to drive, therefore there's a power loss in the total system, so a UDP underdrives those accessories to limit that power loss. All things considered, the increased power, while noticable, is quite minor, so I definitely agree with the above that you'll need to do a lot more than that to be the fastest VG in your area, however it is a step. As for the rpm thing, this in my opinion is a greater advantage to a UDP. Generally speaking, the redline of an engine is based upon the accessory drive. When approaching the redline, the accessory drive is spinning at a very high rate, and damage can result to those accessories, so by lowering their speed, you can rev the engine faster, withouth harming the accessory drive. With mods, you might be increasing the hp peak of the engine, therefore able to take advantage of higher rpm, and this is where a power difference will be noticed, not just in the ability to pull higher rpms with a stock engine, as the hp peak is below the redline anyhow.
