Today I have learned that....

The Throttle Body makes a good base to hold the VTC when you go to rebuild them.
That and a 12mm socket

take that Nissan VTC rebuild tool kit thing a ma bob.

(oh, and this is on my spare assemblies, so dont try and murder me Chris)

anyone need pics?

no no no

my 3.5ton jack + Durango (well surburban since the durangos at my dads house) frame rail. If the frame rail isnt enough pressure than rear diff here I come.

The spare jack on the durango is a scissor jack, takes too long to mess with, plus doesn't have the big plate on it like the floor jack.

I dont see how I could ruin it. If anything I'm worried about the TB. 36mm socket = not big enough

Today I present the Surburban/Durango Press

I did not use the throttle body, I was trying to thing of things I could use and walla! My little exhaust patcher upper thing a ma bob heh. The 2-1/8" tube was too tall, and I didnt feel like cutting it, so I just used the U bolt instead, perfect fit

I tried using the trailer hitch first:

But I didn't the angle, plus it didnt seem like I was getting enough pressure, soooo I moved on to the rear axle housing hehehee

Here's a closeup clicky

End result:

you know, you could have sent the damn things over to me and I could have pressed them apart using a real press and whatnot...

cool thing about it is that you could have added it to your bill

but seriously very much... ghetto rig: vice city here we come! w00 w00

hunh?

This wasn't Chris's VTC, this was a spare one I have.

Honestly though, before hand I was nervous about taking them apart because it seemed all complicated and critical and crap, but it's actually pretty simple so

Dude, that looks kind of scary!

I don't want to see any more pictures, it kind of makes me feel a bit like I am going to have a heart attack.

Just finish the work and bring my car back with the VTCs working correctly without the terrible clacking.

The rest I don't want to know about...

I just fully took this one apart, man, it is so much simplier (hehehehe) than I thought they were lol.

Now it makes sense before I only had a general idea.

The spring in it is much easier to compress vs. the springs in the rebuild kit. This VTC had 165,000 on it, and IIRC grounding them did not shut them up, lol.

Anyone happen to know why they have you replace the cap?

I decided to reassemble the VTC I took apart and was able to do so by hand pretty much.

Basically using the jack and surburban/durango was unnecessary and you can rebuild them by hand.

some stuff that will help:
1/4 to 1/2" tall section of 2-1/8" steel tubing (exhaust tubing) or something similiar as a base (center must be hollow).
wood stalk
socket (14mm works good)
hammer

It really doesn't require alot of pressure at all, and its alot easier than using a truck
Just remember to mark the hell out of everything.

I still dont know why they have you replace the cap though

Nick you only messed up with actually installing them right? Did you have Nissan do the actual rebuild (I cant remember)?

anywho, now I'm trying to put the rear side cover on.... my big paws + small area = arrrrrrgggggg

Took a break for dinner + posting then back outside. After I get the side covers on I'm going to crank the engine over by hand to make sure there isnt any interference. There shouldn't be but I dont want to pull a Nick .
