carpet cleaning
What is the beast way to shampoo or extract the carpet in a car? I wouldn't think the Bissel "Little Green Clean Machine" does a very good job from what I have heard. Could I go to a carpet cleaning place and rent something? Has anyone here shampooed their carpet and mats?

I don't know if you have a Fred Meyer there (try some other kind of store -- Albertsons, Kroger, whatever), but they rent this thing called a Rug Doctor. It is kind of expensive (IIRC apx $20 for the machine and $5 for the special "soap") but it works good. Just be sure to get the one with the attachment.
I used one several years ago when I cleaned up a house I was renting. Cleaned up all the carpets in the house like new and I used the attachment to clean my car and truck out and both carpets came out like new.
That is my only experience with any kind of carpet cleaners, so others might steer you in a cheaper direction.
If you just have nasty floor mats, you can clean them at the car wash with the high pressure sprayer, then vacuum the water out. It works pretty well and gets out a lot of the deep down dirt.
