new guy with guestions

sup guys, i just got a 1992 maxima as my daily car and i have some questions that im hopeing u guys can help me out with. first off..i have checked out other 92s on cardomain (to learn and see what can be done) and mine seems to be the only maxima with digital gauges and no spoiler, is it some special option or something?whats the deal on them?

also mine has this wood finish on the center consel thing (click link to see pics of my new maxima and what im talking about) http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/450475/7
i have seen acouple others on the net that have a carbon fiber(sp?) look but none like mine, do they come stock as an option or something?? or is it aftermarket? where can get i get this sticker finish stuff??
oh were do i get the M3 head lights??

on my maxima page there is pics of other maximas that have a add on bumper kit, were can i get that kit?? oh and there a pic of my engine on that page do i have the 140hp one? how much TQ does it have

acouple people have told me that these cars (3rdgen max) are bad in the winter (dont see y they would be bad) but u guys would know, how are they in the snow?? and is it true that 3rd gen maximas have issues with there trannys????

sry bout all the question but u know how it is when u get a new car.

I believe you just got a GXE w/ Digital Speedometer. I dont have a spoiler most people put them on or if you the the "se" then you have one come on it but the GXE does not and the GXE are the only ones with the digital gagues

for the BMW lights. they are the 92-98 BMW E36's

http://www.procarparts.com

and the guy before you prob put the wood dash in.

and please check out the faq's and links

www.stillen.com www.wingswest.com and some other

for the body kit or find it in the parts forsale and wanted form.

Digital dash was on the GXE electronics upgrade package, which should also include the digital climate control- at least on the US version. The wood finish is aftermarket. Any carbon fiber stuff would be aftermarket. In terms of HP, all I know is the VG engine is 160, and the VE is 190. Since it sounds like you have a GXE, you would have the VG engine. Again, this is all US specs, so don't know about Canadian models.
Maximas are front wheel drive, and those are usually better in the snow, in my experience. As for the trannys, read the recent posts and make up your own mind. There's always one or two current ones, and tons of older ones that talk about tranny issues.

the lights are e36 BMW lights, you can even get them from a BMW dealership, but thats a more expensive option. You have a GXE, 160hp, the digital dash option, no spoiler, because the GXE doesnt come with one. The wood dash is aftermarket. I have no problem at all with the Maxima in the snow. Yes there are tranny problems, I have an SE automatic and its startin to slip and go buh bye. I think on the GXE's, those trannys were also used on the older model sentra's which are a 2.4L i think. I'm not too familiar with GXE specific problems but a tranny that's meant for a smaller engine could cause problems. As long as it stays nice, there's no problem. good luck. also, check out the faqs.

I've driven my '94 SE through two Colorado winters - albeit they were a little drier than normal the last couple of years because of the drought.

Personally, I felt it handled great! But I'm sure that a lot depends on the size/brand of tires you use and your driving habits.

There are lots of transplanted Californians here who don't understand that, with snow and ice on the ground, you have to drive a little differently...

ya i thought the wood finish was aftermarket, do u guys know were to get them from? oh and if i take it off will it damage the orignal finish behind it? it looks like its just a sticker

3rd gen tranny's suck. the VE tranny is a bit better.
but like anything else, if you make hard launches at red lights or elsewhere and thrash the car, the tranny is gonna have an abusive and short life, as it is rather weak.

but babying the tranny is boring.
