Misfire problem...help!

I have the `92 VE engine. When standing in front of the car the front left cylider will not fire. I thought it was a coil pack, so I changed the pack around and it still wont fire. when I unplug the other packs while the engine is running the engine will stumble. when I unplug the far left pack nothing happens. I put a stethoscope up to the injector and it is clicking like the others. I thought maybe the conector was not making good contact, so I disasebled the connector and hooked up the three wires directly to the coil pack and still nothing. I checked to see if fire was getting to the connector and it lights up my test light like the others I tested. why is it not firing?

sara92max:

You can always check if ignition is not working by removing the plug and pressing it against the engine while cranking. If you see spark in the gap then it is not the root cause of misfiring.

Not exactly sure if Maxima computer is smart enough to cut off fuel if there is no spark on a particular cylinder. If it is not, then you can also visually see if the fuel is being supplied by removing the wire from the plug and starting the car when it is cold. Then remove the plug - it will be wet of gasoline if the injector is working.

Hope that helps.
