theres a lot of:

cutting
drilling
trying
putting on
taking off
screaming
bleeeding
cursing
sweating
etc....

just kidding. look at the above link. its helpful. but as for the fitting, whats not fitting right? if its the whole light, theres a lot of reasons. can you be more specific as to how it wont fit? and whats not working right?

heres the quick basics:
-take out stock headlight and take the light off the bracket
-cut maxima bracket so the e36(w/o its bracket) can fit on the max bracket
-use any means to secure light(e36) to bracket(max) either by custom brackets, super glue, hot glue, duct tape, etc...(id recomend the custom brackets)
-put light back on car making sure the hood closes and cut the grill to fit(if needed)

sorry, thats kinda raw but thats pretty much how it goes. on and for electricals, youll need to get a pair of 9005 and 9006 plugs. $3-5 each at auto store or at a 5 finger discount at a junk yard for all 4.
